Soron Reel - Semi Testimonial
This is a sort of weird tesimonial, but bear with me.
While fishing yesterday (really tough as usual...sigh) It was lunch time, so I decided to troll around a bit in open water and enjoy the nice weather. Well, I hooked into something monstrous...I think it was a big catfish, because it left an 18" long bead of slime on my line above the crank when I pulled it up. So I think the catfish was at least 18 inches in girth, since it probably did this when death rolling my line. Well, that would make that catfish way, waaaay above the 8lb test I had on. And that Soron STX reel handled every bit of that fish. It gave out line smoothly and took it up quickly when the fish came at me. Unfortunately, I never got the fish to the boat. It didn't break off...I guess it just wasn't hooked very well. It was just about pulling my rod tip underwater though, so it was about all my Mopjo Bass spinning rod wanted. Anways, the reel handled great bevfore the crank popped out. I would have loved to at least seen the fish.

That's the ones I hate the most...the ones you don't actually see, you just hafta guess at it. Good review for the reel, though.

"A fish can as much as double or triple its size between the time when it is hooks and the time it is lost" - something like that!
I love big catfish! I wish you could have pulled it up and get a pictured of that sucker! |

Yea, you can tell a lie and since you didn't even see it you can believe it yourself.

Catfishermen never lie. Usually, I find myself underguessing a fish... They usually turn out to be a damn good bit bigger than I think they are. But that prolly has something to do with the fact that I fish them regularly... If I am saying a cat is big, it is freaking huge... 20lb. or better. Now I go sleepy-time. Zzzzzzz.

I love it when I'm having a real slow day.... and I hook into a big fish, and my mind tells me "oh its nothing big", then I realize its pretty heavy and tough to reel in... then my mind says "oh jeez, its all snagged up on some weeds". Finally when I get the fish near and I see it is when I turn optimistic!
Then on good days, everything that hits my lure is a potential monster right off the bat! |

Don't ya hate that? I hooked into somethin huge last weekend. Saw it flash as I set the hook and turned it over so I could tell it was big right from the start. Tried reelin it in and couldn't make any headway, just kept the rod tip up and as much tension on as I could. Watched my line go around in a big half circle before he made a dash for the boat. When I realized he was headin under, I jumped to the back of the boat, stuck my tip in the water and cleared it to the other side, and the line snapped. Big bummer. Had to be a bass, pike or a bowfin

Storys like that are just killer. You'll always wonder what was that?! I still wonder about a fish I had on once many years ago. I was fishing a Slider rig, 4 inch worm on a 1/4oz head in 25 foot of water on a spinning rig with 8 pound line and hooked into a giant. I struggled trying to land that fish a good 15 minutes before the line snapped. Several boats in the area were watching and when the line went limp there was a audible sigh that could be heard from all around me, lol. Never did see that fish, and it kills me not knowing what it was. Sounds like your reel will definately serve you well.

Nah, Northern Michigan Sharks, or No Teeth, as they're called up here, don't put up much of a fight.
