Default Outboard Exhaust leak/Oil

Hey guys just to my new to me boat out on the water today. and I have a question...

A little background, 1990 Astro Quickfire 18FDX with a Mercury 150 XR4

I had the boat shop do a complete tune up and remove a "hotfoot" pedal that I don't care to have on the boat. When I pickeded it up the guy warned me that there is an exhaust leak on the motor and it may cause a little of what looks like oil. (actually the dirt from the exhaust being caught by water)

So, back to today. I took the boat out and it ran pretty good, doesnt always restart right away usually by at least the third try. Now when I was done "Test" running her and reloading onto the trailer, I notice the black "oil" he had mentioned. My question is how much is too much before I should have the exhaust leak fixed?

Here is a picture of how much came out today...

2nd question...How bad is this on the enviroment? Someone told me that "marine" oils are to be biodegradable...true?

#1; fix it NOW.
#2; any thing that leaks like this is bad for the enviroment. fix it now. Never heard of any oil that was biodegradeable. but i ain't the sharpest tool in da shed either.

Well, technically speaking, all non-synthetic motor oils are bio-degradable to some extent. They came from biomass, and they will decay back to it if given time. They're still very toxic in the short term, and you definitely need to get that leak fixed immediately. I wouldn't take it out at all until it's fixed. Aren't boats great?

Get it fixed bud. A exhaust leak is unhealthy for the motor and the envior,ent......not expensixe to fix.........gaskets and maybe a plate.
