plug knockers
You can make you own plug knocker , by using a bass sinker and a screw in eyelet. Here are a couple I made. the screw in eyelet is opened up to slide you line in and another line is tied to the swivel eye of the sinker to knock the plug free and retreive the knocker back with. P N J

I alternated the 2 different weight sizes in the pictures, you can determine what weight is best for you.The bigger weight I showed is like a 2 oz. sinker, that is a bit overkill, but it works easier with trebles hung up on trees and stuff like that. P N J

Good idea, PnJ. I usually use a 1+ oz bell or disk sinker with a cross-lock snap on it. Have to try the eyelet idea.

I'll stick with my old faithful David Fritz lure retriever! If I ever lose that thing I think I will just lay down and cry like a baby! It has saved my several hundred dollars for sure!

So all you do is hitch it to your line, let it go, and let it "knock" the plug?

Lunk, put your fishing line in the eyelet and let it slide down the line to the lure , have another line already attached to the swivel eye of the sinker , that way I can pull the lure retreiver up the line a few inches and let it fall to the lure again, knocking the lure free if it didn't free the first time.Does that make any sense ?
For the other line I use a duo snap on my trap rod, I snap the duo lock into the rear swivel and pull out enough line for the knocker to free fall to the stuck lure. Bobby, these are compact retreivers, they will easily store in a plano box with your hooks and weights. My Fritts knocker was nice when I had a big bass boat, not so great to keep track of when I use 8 different soft side tackle packs ad a 14 foot aluminum. This type of plug knocker is dirt cheap to make, I have them stuffed in every tackle pack . |

rip rap on dams and bridges, and mostly fallen timbers (maples) that are all around..
but the worst if fishing line, crappie lines, etc. those two bell sinkers has never let me down , i keep thinking i need to tie a line on one for extreme cases, like the hound dog / string concept. good idea from mr zooker! |

I have the Fritz retriever tied to 1/4" solid core nylon! I've pulled trees, fence posts and even an old matress spring up with it before!

I recently switched from the clip to a crosslock snap, but here is what I use:
Make up a few and just clip one to your line. Drop it down and jiggle it a few times. If one doesn't work simply add another.

Wow, Zooker, that looks like a hell of a Drop-Bank (Bare Bank) area! I'm assuming this is a low-water picture? Looks like some good fishin'!

Ain't no fish there! Bet you do get hung up a lot.
These are a good idea. I usually just take the boat in after my lures and get them out, but of course that spooks every fish nearby. Now that you guys have shown how easy these are to make I will build some and then next year wonder what I ever did without them. |

I have one of the lure knockers with the loop to go around your line and the chains. Ended up tying it to one of the auto retrieve dog leashes. Leash has 20-30 ft of line which is deeper than any crank goes. After using it, just press the button and it retrieves the line and all is put away till next time. Here is type leash I use, you can pick them up at Walmart fairly cheap.

Raul, I seen that one today.I went to bass pro shop to get the weight balancing kit for my Clunn crankin stick. They had that retreiver packaged with a pair of pliars for $6.99.I picked it up and put it back a dozen times.I finally did leave without it. I picked up a few other things and got out of there $150.00 lighter. P N J
