Wink Ready for those pesky bass

As of last weekend our cabin is open for 2014. Now I am just waiting for 3 weeks from today when bass season opens again!

We knew we had a pine tree that fell in the yard during the winter, but I didn't realize when it was standing that it was so tall -- I measured it at 54 feet.

Six hours later I had it all cleaned up.

The no-wake zone channel in front of our place was ice-free already on Friday morning, but the rest of the lake was at least 50% ice-covered...

Friday afternoon was sunny and near 60 degrees, and a lot of the remaining ice went out.

This is one of the views from the recliner in our living room. Cassie is doing her best "sleeping ceramic bear on the window ledge" impression.

I don't think we can see anything swimming in any of the pics, just underwater weeds that will look like this eventually. This picture is from right in the middle of the channel a couple years ago, and it's 7 feet deep here.

Any of the darker areas in the water in pic #4 are what will become nice weedbeds this summer. There is a nice combo of sand & weeds all the way through the channel, and we catch lots of nice fish right from our dock -- LM & SM bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, and Crappie.

Gettin close eh? I'm happy for ya!

We could legally start fishing last Saturday in April (I'm going to try and make the next DNR meeting and see if they can change that!).

Luckily, the good fishing will start a lil late this year due to the cold water temps.
Last year our Spring was early, and there never was a pre spawn rush to feed. Spring fishing was awful!

Ron, it most definitely is a little slice of heaven on earth!

Opener will be here before I know it. VERY busy at work right now, so the weekdays will go quickly, next weekend is a college graduation for a nephew, the weekend after that will be a 3-day weekend of fishing in Iowa with my dad & uncle, and then it will 8.5 days at the lake...with PLENTY of fishing to be done!
