Default Johnny Morris Gold Reals

Been trying to buy this real. But BPS has been out of stock in the right hand model. What other real would be comparable to the Johnny Morris in the same price range? Real will be used on a 7'3'' MH-F Carrotstick. Can't wait any longer for BPS to get their act together.

I've got the JML (johnny Morris Elite Limited edition).. not sure if this is the one you're talking about it's a pretty good reel. Good caster, a bit heavy, smoothness is deteriorating. I've had it for a little more than 2 years now. Pairs up really nicely with a cabelas XML rod! Great balance, and good color match.

Doesn't look like BPS is going to get any new-right handers in, either. I'd go with a Shimano Curado 200e7, retail for $179 but you can snatch them up on eBay for $145. Very smooth, very light, very versatile. With Shimano's awesome customer service you could get parts extremely cheap and fast. If you have large hands or prefer the larger Revo's, The Revo SX would be a nice choice. I still would go with the Curado, though.

I'd go with a Daiwa HSTA in the same price point. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiw...ge153hsta.html

You'll get another vote for the Curado in that price range. I just picked up one and tried it out the other day, it's great. I'm getting my second one in the mail tomorrow (can't wait). I'll be selling a lot of revo's in the next couple of weeks. The Curado's are awesome!!

I'll throw my vote in for the Daiwa HSTA or Abu SX.

Gotta be more specific about the JM reel though. There are two reels that are gold. There is one positioned above the Johnny Morris Elite (the blue one) and the limited edition one which is below the JM Signature (silver one).

If you're talking the high end one, I'd go with a Daiwa Zillion instead. Or if you can find them still on sale, the Daiwa Fuego for a big of a cheaper alternative to the Zillion.

Thanks everyone: decided to go with the Curado 200e7. I liked this real but did not know much about it. Read some about it and it sounds good. Thanks to all of you and good fishing.

Congrats! Not what I would have picked, but still a solid reel I've heard!

Well! We will see if I made the right choice. Tackle Warehouse has that Demo. program. If it does not work out maybe I can send it back. Anyone tried their program?

TW's Demo program works like this. You pay them (like $10-20) depending on where you live and how many reels you're going to demo. Then you pick the reels you want to demo. They ship them to you, you use them for a week, and ship them back.

But I've heard TW's customer service is great. I've been lucky enough that I haven't found this out myself though. I'm sure if you don't like the reel for any reason they'll take it back, or at least exchange it for a different one.

In that price range, I'd look for a Curado if it were me.

The BPS Pro Qualifier is a great reel but if you really want the JM Gold then I would wait for it.

I like my gold reel. I am worried about the durability though it is already locking up minorly. I'm hard on reels I do a lot of fishing and this is my frog reel it gets the nastiest abuse so I'm a little worried but so far so good.

I sold all my Johnny Morris Silver reels and replaced them with the new Carbonlite reels. I can not be happpier with them. They are half the weight and out cast the old ones everytime. The Shimano that you got is a great reel. You will find that it is very smooth and should last years for you. I have 4 of them.
