Default It was a good day on the water with two exceptions

Finally made it out onto the water Saturday with my Father-in-law (great guy-has become one of my best friends) and we managed to get about 10 in the boat. Nothing big but some good, solid keepers. All but one came on a baby bass/pearl laminate Yum Dinger. The other came on an old school purple/white tail curl tail worm. Water temp started about 60 and made it up to 63 by the end of the day. I was surprised that I could not find any beds or even evidence of beds. Guess the crazy spring weather messes them up even in South Texas. Anyway, we had a great time except for two things. One was painful, the other not so much. One thing that did surprise me was I felt every hit. Most times I do not feel the hit with a senko type bait, the fish is just there. So, I felt that wonderful thump, reeled down and set the hook which was immediately followed by a loud snap as the Falcon Low Rider weightless worm rod I was using snapped about 8" below the tip. That one hurt-any time you break an expensive rod it is painful. At least I broke it on a fish. I've had a couple lose fights with a ceiling fan and that just ****** me off. Oh, I did manage to get the fish in the boat. The other exception occurred about an hour later. I was trying to get my father-in-law unsnagged, pulling to see if I could get it loose when it happened again-the rod snapped about a foot from the top. Fortunately this rod I got on clearance for $9 so I wasn't too upset about that one. That was the second time I broke 2rods in one day, but those were both inexpensive. I guess if you fish long enough you will break a rod or two. Still, it was a good time on the water with a good friend

Glad, and extremely jealous, you were able to get out there and land some fish!

Right about now, I'd throw 2 rods overboard, just to be out on the lake

Way to go Reb! Sounds like our water temps are the same, I went Sat and today and with the same water temps only saw a couple of half hearted beds (incomplete)......this time last year we were covered up with fresh/hot/active beds. Oh well gives us something to look forward to anyway.

Put a tip on the Falcon and call it your "close quarters spinnerbait stick"

I can relate, Bama. Couple of weeks ago one of my stepsons and one of his buddies took the boat out and forgot to pull-up the trolling motor before they took off. Bent the shaft and snapped off the transducer I had mounted on it. It will go into the shop when I get back in town. Fortunately I haves spare of both-a 5 speed I replaced with a variable speed and the transducer of a depth finder I upgraded to a couple of years back.

A hole in the water you throw money into...

Reb glad to hear about the catching.

Always hate to hear about a rod breaking.
Two in ONE DAY....heartbreaking.'
Two in two different outings...!

But to KNOW the VALUE of FREINDSHIP.....PRICELESS!

Thanks for the share!

Two rods in one day? Ugh!! I'm glad you enjoyed your day with your father in law, and got some nice bass to boot. But if I ever get down your way to do some fishing, I'm keeping my rods close to my side. hahaha
