Default My First Muskie

I caught and released my "first ever" muskie. She measured in at 36" and weighed 10lbs. I caught it with a shallow Bandit Flat Maxx using a 6'6" medium/composite crankbait rod with 8lb mono spooled on a Revo3winch. I fought her for what seemed like 10 minutes or so. She made at least 4 or 5 runs before I was able to wear her out and get her to shore. I managed to get her revived and watched her swim slowly away. An image I will never forget!

I was fishing alone.

Thanks!

This muskie is also my new PB.

This image gives a better idea on her size.

Mark great fish!
Did you have some sort of leader or how did you not get bit off.
I loose many a lure to toothy Pike and Musky, so I always want to know ideas to avoid bite offs.

Again great fish and great fun.
Thanks for the share.

I had a few very small finger cuts, that didn't feel to good until after a good cleaning with soap and water.

Beautiful killing machines.

Congrats, bud.

Congrats on your first musky! I've caught lots of pike, but never a musky. I can only imagine how that fight must have been!

Nice fish Mark!! Musky are a lot of fun on light tackle.

If you pose with the fish, try to keep them horizontal. Holding musky vertically can affect their swim bladder and make them harder to revive before release. I learned this from a musky guy we met on the lake a couple years ago and I thought I'd pass it on.
