On the board for 2013...
MN bass opener is still another 8 days away, but I am visiting my parents in Iowa this weekend and doing a little fishing while I'm here. My dad and I tried our luck at the lake last night for about an hour before the rain, wind and lightning chased us home. I didn't get a nibble, but my dad caught 4 or 5 small crappie and a few tiny sunfish. He wasn't able to go with me this morning due to a prior commitment, but I was back at it for 3 hours. It took an hour of trying several lures to figure out that they wanted plastics, and they wanted them presented slowly. I ended up catching 5 LM, all between 12" and 14.5". The heaviest one was 2lb 2oz. Nothing noteworthy picture wise, but very fun nonetheless!

Saw that earlier too.
Looks like an Iowa Pike may have not wanted the new nest in the neighborhood. Good to see you get out 'catching'! You mentioned plastics. Were you worming? Whaky or Texas? Looks like their still on beds. Maybe just starting even.

Went back yesterday evening for a couple of hours and I didn't get a bite, but my dad caught his first two bass of the year and lost another one. He caught his on a wacky-rigged 5" senko. The biggest one, shown here, was 2lb 7oz. I was happy to see him finally catch a couple (he's been out there several times since the ice went out with no bass to show for it).
I went back solo this morning for 3 hours and landed 8 more, all on a zoomie working it very slowly or even dead-sticking it. They all ranged from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 pounds, but nothing worth taking a picture of. Not sure if we'll get out one more time before I leave tonight or not... |
