Default lockin it up..

lets face it if you haul tools or fishing gear in the back of your pick up. chances are someone will steal them. a hard tonneau cover or a camper shell are great ideas. the problem is even with a locked camper shell or tonneau cover a thief only has to yank on your tailgate to gain access to your gear.which kinda defeats the purpose of having it locked in the first place..

till now..

i heard of these tailgate locks and found one at jc whitney..

having used jc whitney bolt on products before, i ordered one for my truck and for $40 shipped.. i got the lock. when installin the lock it took longer to dig out my torx wrench socket set than to actually install the lock..

here it is installed on my 05 ranger-i actually had to get on my knees to get this picture..

basicly because it is nearly invizable from standing position..

it works excatly as designed the handle while still moves some does not release the tailgate till unlocked..

yeah i know the camper shell is off my truck for repainting..

I think some of the new Silverados have this as an option. Mine doesn't cause it is the cheapest one made! (with the exception of the engine)
It is a great idea and I will look into it, I always keep my transom saver, etc. in there.

The only problem is that a theif can get into any thing that he wants to. Might take him longer but he will get in.
I've got a lock-r bar for my boat, the only reason that I've got one (plus locks for the boxes) are so that a thief will see this and decide to get into a boat with out these items. Sorry for the bad news.

This is the way I see it, Thieves are just a bunch of punks that are looking for an EASY STEAL. A simple $40 lock on My tailgate will keep "most" thieves out.
I avoid making Myself a target, I keep a low profile, above all, I'm Not Scared.
