Default New Pond, Nice catch! (pic)

So... Theres been this small pond I've been eying up a few miles down the road, but there's private property signs around it and some houses and a farm near it so I really haven't bothered it. But today I was itching to try some new spots so I went down to it. I was looking around and found a lady hanging up some laundry and asked her whos pond it was and she told me the guy across the road. I went to his house and asked him if i could fish it, and he gladly said yes, I knew him too becuase he used to be a substitute teacher at my high school.

So I go to the pond and to start things off I threw a rooster tail. I like starting with a rooster tail because they catch the small stuff like crappie, bluegill, and small bass. This way I can get a nice feel for whats in the pond. First cast... nice 14" bass! I figured... OK! this is cool. So i started with the jigs, and worms. On my football jig, I caught another nice bass over 12" and bullhead that looked to be about 12"! I dig, I dig! So I move to the one side where there was some vegetation on the top of the water and where the wind was blowing and casted a 7" powerworm texas rigged ontop the junk. Gave it a few twitches and I got a strong hit! Took it under and i set the hook, and it took me at least 2 minutes to reel this fish in... my reel is also inda junky and skips, so that added to it. I knew it was a nice one... I reached down and pulled out this 18" largemouth! It was a beautiful catch! I just need to buy a scale to get the weight cause this thing was kinda fat! My guess would be about 4 pounds, probably closer to 3.75. Heres a pic of it, I couldn't get a pic of me holding it since i went alone so I took it by the tackle box so you can compare it to something.

Don't tell anybody. And tell your ex-teacher friend not to let anybody else fish it, either.
If somebody else sees you and starts fishing, go up to them and ask to see their permit to fish that pond. That should scare them off. Nice honey hole, by the way.

well im not too sure.... it measured a little over 18" and by most conversion charts that's around 3.5 and it wasn't skinny but wasn't fat. Ugh! I need a scale badly! I would like to think its close to 4 though, haha

oh, and i also noticed all the bass from that pond were a much lighter color than from other lakes i fish at. I did notice the water was very clear, and this pond is actually very small. I can cast end to end all the way around.

Guys, Im sorry im not a big expert on bass fishing, I talk a lot and like to ask questions, but that's only because I try to make every opportunity to learn more about fishing. The learning and experimenting part is what I find to be most fun, and that's why I decided to join these forums. I love looking up stuff on these forums and then going out and seeing if it works, it really helps me become a much more well-rounded fisher. I was on these forums a lot just reading stuff before I joined and I'v already learned a lot, and I've been using that to my advantage everytime i go fishing. So... thanks guys! Your all making my fishing experience much better

haha I dont think i have too much to worry about. The fishing in my area isn't very competitive. Il show it to a few friends but I wont go around bragging about it. I would like to keep the fish unspooked. They didn't seem too smart... I caught the same one twice, I could tell by a certain cut on it. But they were hitting hard at 2 in the afternoon which is nice!

I love Rooster Tails. Its always the first thing I rig up on a new pond. It helps me get a good feel for whats in the water. I always catch bass on Rooster Tails, just not really big ones, and they always hook so nicely with those treble hooks.
