Holy smokes, was it still alive? Rather get a handful of treble than a bite from a pit viper, lol.

Wasn't my catch. It was posted on facebook. I can imagine reaching my hand in a bass and getting bit would take all the fun out of the day.

While it might bite its not a pit viper-water snake non venomous, that one anyway.
They do eat even small cottonmouths, rattlers, etc and venom doesnt bother them even if get bit -cold blooded.
Same with the american opossum marsupial only drawback they get is the hole punched not even a king cobra can kill one, with its venom.See theres good in most of the worlds creatures even snake hunting possums.
Research is currently ongoing to get possum anti venom or assist in it,being studied extensively.
Its warm blooded yet nervous system isnt effected.

It would not have to be poisonous to kill me. I would probably have a heart attack if I got bit by a snake while unhooking a fish.

Id check prior to inserting hand then,I caught one this year that had half a catfish sticking out. Both would have died as fins stuck out to far.To late for the catfish, but the bass was released without its burden.

Wow, I never would have expected that! I don't have any problem with snakes, but the shock of seeing it there would probably have made me drop the bass. haha

i caught a bass that was over 8lbs, and my buddy was trying to get my jig out of its mouth, and happened to shine his light into the bass' mouth to discover that there was the head of a cotton mouth sticking out its throat. we were both very lucky!!! i am glad that someone has taken a picture to show that it does happen, and perhaps we all should use some caution before reaching inside the mouth of a bass.

It's not as exciting as the head of a snake but I've caught several that already had hooks in there mouths. I've also seen broadheads found inside of deer being butchered.

Ive caught bass with turtles in their stomach. The snakes are easier prey. Cool picture.

Often wondered but never have seen anything like this. Wonder what bit the lure...the snake or the bass? Great posting!

I remember reading about a guy in Louisiana who DID get bit by a cottonmouth after reaching into a bass's mouth to unhook it. It does happen.

I'm going to start checking from now on. I don't care if it's poisonous or not.
