Default Cold Front Lockjaw Blues

Hey fellas!

Well the fishing here has dived. We were having weather in the mid 70 to lower 80 range, nights in the 60s, and the bass were insane on the bite. The the dreaded cold front. Had a night in the 40 range, and one hell of a rain storm, now the days are in the mid 60s nights in the high 30s low 40s, and the bite stopped like a bomb drop.

Cant even turn up a bass on live wild shiners. Frustrating to say the least.

Do you guys have any ideas on coldfronts?

Cold fronts are tough. One approach that has worked for me is to use a 1/4 oz. black maribue jig with a black 6 inch lizard and fish it slowly on the deep edges of a weedbed. Also, a carolina rig worked deep is worth a try.

a cold front ya don't say.. the only thing a cold front does is make you choose your baits a touch differantly.. thrus day it was like 80 today it was 27 this morning. it topped out about 60 the bite was hot and heavy early the bass were shallow and aggressive.. the fat girls were for sure whoofin down there food.. had to use the pliers on every fish. wind got up about 9 am and like a light switch poof.. no one biting NO WHERE...

Fished Lake Dexter today. Me and my partner caught around 20. However only 3 were keepers, and nothing bigger than 2.5lbs. We caught them on flukes, spinnerbaits, Damnpeople's P-Craws, and trickworms. The bite was decent until about 12pm, then slowed way down. We only caught fish in 1 area though. And the flukes and spinnerbait bite wasn't a slow presentation either. Look for the coves/mouths of creeks, and work them thoroughly. The bite was much better than we anticipated, we were pleased to say the least. And yes it was "COLD" today for normal. Never got out of my sweats, and only took off my insulated raingear at 4pm for about 1 hour, then right back on. The wind was blowing hard, so we believe that helped us out, we were fishing the windblown areas almost all day, and I got the windburn to prove it.

If possible I try to avoid post frontal conditions. Most of the time it means bluebird skies and a howling north wind which makes for tough conditions out on the water.
