You're having slippage problems with the palomar? Never heard that before. Not to sound like a smart@$$, but are you sure you're tying it right?
I use the improved clinch knot on mono and fluoro, but for braid, I use the palomar...never had any problems with it slipping at all. Palomar knot Improved clinch knot

I've been tying a Modified Uni Knot lately for all my lines. What I mean by a Modified Uni Knot is that the line passes through the eye of the hook twice. For braid, I loop the line through the eye twice, then proceed to tie the Uni Knot, using 8-10 wraps around the line. For Mono and FC, I only use 5-6 wraps.
Other than that, I only use the Palomar and have had no problems. You can also tie an overhand knot on top of your Palomar for a bit of added security. BB

I would only have to ask if your wetting the palomar knot before sinching it down? I've been using it with braid for years now and never had any slippage problems.

I've had problems with the pallomar knot on mono for some reason. And yes, I was wetting the string before cinching it down. Went back to the improved cinch knot with mono and hoping it will solve the issue, haven't fished again since to find out.
Problem was when I went to set the hook. The line would break clean (not untying, not popping) right at the hook. Was almost like someone was cutting it. Sometimes no issue at all, but others I could lose 2 baits back to back. At first I was thinking it was the line I used (berkley XL smooth in 10&12lb), but this all started about the time I started tying this knot and I had NEVER had this issue before.. |

I've never had a problem with the palomar knot with regular mono or braid. I've just recently started using flouro for some applications & the palomar knot will break right at the eye of the hook. I lost several fish usin gth ewrong knot with the flouro.I use the improved UNI knot now on the flouro & the breakage problems are gone.. used braid for years with no problems.

Just went to braid on 2 of my baitcasters and flouro on my spinning reel. Using the pallomar on all 3, so I'll have to see how that goes |

Yeah i usually always tie the improved clinch knot for mono and palomar for flouro. I just got into braid a lot and the palomar knot seems to slip every once in a while on it but next time im gonna double it up and see if that works and if not then ill try a uni knot.

Are you sure it's slippage that is causing your problems? The reason I ask is because one of the biggest things people fight with braid is the line breaking at the knot, but it's usually not the knots fault. The thin diameter of the braid can let it get in the gap in the eye of the hook and this will cut the line at the knot. The only time I use braid is when I am flipping or fishing frogs but to cure this problem for flipping I started using the BMF hook from Reaction Innovations which has the gap in the eye of the hook welded shut so that the line can't get cut. I too tie the palomar knot for braid and although I hate braid, I haven't had any problems with the knot yet. Here is a link to a video of a knot that I tie with anything that has a high impact hookset like a jig or T-rig with flourocarbon or mono. I haven't tried it with braid yet but I can't see why it wouldn't work, give it a try and see if it helps you out.
It's the second video down: http://lftlures.com/riggings |

Try going to a double palomar...when you tie it, loop the doubled end around twice instead of just once...that's step #4 in the link I put up. That may give you a better result.

I use the Improved Clinch Knot for mono. For braid I use the same knot except I run the line through the eye of the hook twice forming a small loop, then I continue with 3 to 5 wraps and the rest of the knot.
Here's an image of my "modified" Improved Clinch Knot for braid |

Actually the knot shown is the "Trilene Knot" and it works well for braid.

The palomar is the standard knot for braid, in addition to the other knots (improved Clinch and Trilene) also try the plain ol uni-knot on braid. It works very well (also on Flouro-carbon). A lot of folks are familiar with the double uni on leader to main line, but the single uni on the braid also works good for the hook and lure ties.

If you are doing alot of flippin plastics go with a straight shank hook (BMF is awesome for this) And tie a modified snell knot. this not wont come undone and it makes the hok cantilever into the fishing mouth. Winning! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvlYJp49Hqs
