Help needed

Hello everyone

Fishing hasn't been good. I do need a lot of help.

Where I fish, is this city water reservoir that it's very low right now. I fish from shore because I don't have a boat. I use 1/2 lbs crankbaits (rat-l-trap). I haven't caught anything at all.

I'm going to try soft plastics on a Texas rig. Hope this will help more. I guess part of my problem also is that I don't move around the water body. I just stay in one place.

I hope to go next week. Any suggestion?

seems like you are doing the right things. staying in one place may be it, depends on how it looks underneath. it wouldnt hurt to work the other banks so if you could, do it. good luck!
oh and when fihsing a ratletrap, a good pace it really fast.

wow thems are huge i think you mean 1/2oz.definatly move around the lake/pond

If you're water temp is fairly low, like in the forties or so, fish slower, if it is a bit higher you could speed it up some, but do try plastic worms and creature baits, as well as some spinner baits, do move around some, but work an area thouroughly before moving. Try fishing with light bullet weights or even no weights on you're plastics. Downsize you're baits as well.

Is 4'' worms a good size or shoud I get longer ones?

Baja-can you give us a little more info? What I mean is things like cover-weeds? flooded trees? lilly pads?

How clear is the water-gin clear? Stained? looks like chocolate milk?

Are there points-fingers of land that stick out into the water?

This type of info will help us give you some specific suggestions.

It seems like there are not many flodded trees if not any at all. There are some weeds. No lilly pads at all. Most of the weeds are bushes sticking out from the water, mostly because the reservoir right now is pretty low. Water is more greenish than clear. I don't see any point-fingers sticking out.

That helps quite a bit. From the description I've fished similar type water. I'd look at 3 baits: a weightless soft plastic like a Zoom Super Fluke or senko type bait, a square billed shallow running crankbait like a Bandit 100 series, and a spinnerbait. I'd fish all three in and around the bushes since that appears to be the dominant cover. The square billed crankbait is surprisingly snag free due to the shape of the bill-I love throwing a Bandit 100 into flooded brush/trees.

I'd also take a deep running crankbait in a crawfish color, and fish it in shallow water. I've caught a lot of bass throwing a deep runner shallow. It digs in to the bottom and kicks up a mud trail just like a crawfish does.


That 4" worm could pay off, too-fish it on a small hook like a 1/0 with a light bullet sinker and pull it through the bushes.

Glad to help. It sounds like a borrow pit (they "borrowed" the dirt to use in an overpass on the highway) I fished when I was in school. We caught fish by pulling plastic worms through the branches of the bushes poking up out of the water and letting it fall in the center of the bush.

I know I'm coming in late but I just read the thread. If the water is low and you can see the bushes then write down where they are. When the water rises and they are no longer visible you will know where they are and where the fish will probably be as well.
