Default Rod Making

There was someone on here who makes his own rods, forget who, anyways this is mostly directed at him - but feel free to offer any adivice.

I am getting that new reel in sometime in the next 2 weeks, and the deal is I want this to be a very lightweight baitcasting setup. Basically I want to use this for lures as small as my 3" BPS senkos, small balsa jerkbaits, all sorts of stuff you normally have to throw on spinning. The reel I got can handle this part of the equation, but I am having trouble finding the rod I want for a price I am willing to pay.

I want in the area of a 7'2" rod medium fast action, split grip, no foregrip with a blank light enough to throw 1/8th lure at least. Most baitcasting rods arent that light, they start at give or take 1/4th oz.

I am considering using this opportunity to make my first rod. In that case I can do it as I want to, but, this brings some questions to the forefront. Could I use a blank that is made for spinning or flyrods instead of trigger sticks? What is the spine or whatever of the rod, I heard there is a side you want to affix the guides to? What are some good online places to look for blanks and handles? How hard is the split grip to make?

This has most of what you need. Guide spacing, guides, reel seats, blanks, etc.

Hope it helps, Will,

My dad used to, but since he doesn't any more. We've still got to finish building my flippin stick (preferably before the Guntersville trip )
