Okay ... as I said, if you're thinking of the flame arresting screen in the intake track, that's were the problem existed. The screen itself was fine.

The gear case work that was done was an important clue, but not an obvious one. No one expects a mechanic/technician to make such a simple mistake. But this one had done just that, and left a plastic parts bag on the engine. Under the cover, it had finally been drawn into the intake.

It was heavy enough to lay down until the engine got to 3500+RPM. Then the air flow would flip it up and cover the whole screen, shutting off ALL airflow to the engine. The MAP showed a dramatic drop in pressure as the engine shut off.

As soon as the engine was not running, the plastic, not being affected by vacuum, would fall back out of the way.

All of this was happening deep in the silencer case. It couldn't be readily seen.
