Default Can you find the mistakes this guy makes?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UxL1...ature=youtu.be

Frankly the guy is lucky to find such a fish shorebusting

BUT

LUCK isn't strong enough to describe his good fortune of actually getting the thing landed.

Well, the way he landed the bass was pretty sketchy. And the fact that he didn't invite me to go fishing with him is totally bogus.

I can't believe that rod didn't explode when he high sticked it swinging that fish up on the dock.

Yeah I think I would have been high steping towards the deep end of the dock, but definately would not reach 3/4 up the rod to lift a fish that big (he musta been using an Ugly Stick).

A fish that big is gonna go wherever she pleases hahaha. I think I would have been in the water though. No way I would have tried that because I know I'm not that lucky.

Ok, my input and thoughts.

First he keeps the rod pointed upwards towards the sky.
That's basically just begging the bass to get airborne which is bad enough in clean water....but in vegetation it is even worse.
An exception is if your in deep thick veg., then you may need/want to keep the bass above the weeds but that's not the case here.

Second he never lets the ROD do what it's suppose to do....help fight the fish.

Third, he doesn't lead the fish out away from shallow water and thicker vegetation. He actually moves towards the thicker veg. not away.

Fourth the actual landing and two handed flip onto the pier.
watched one too many fishing shows

Fifth but not last...FLIP FLOPS on a pier with boards seperated by approximatly a quarter inch or more.
Flip flops may work for KVD in his boat but on a pier or for that matter shoreline fishing (shorebusting) your just asking to trip yourself up.
Trust me....It's happened to many a shorebuster I've fished with.

Last but definitly not least......he didn't call me to see if I wanted to join him!

Kinda gives new meaning the saying "I would rather be lucky than good", doesn't it? I was almost like a lesson on what NOT to do, except for one thing.

He landed that toad!!

I don't think he did anything wrong to tell you the truth. I would have held my rod like that, and let the fish do what it wants. As for how he flipped the fish, he has confidence in his equipment. I would do the same with my rods. I know if they break, I can get a new one. That's why you spend a little more for a good rod with a solid warranty. Nice fish by the way.
