Default Hair jigs

I did a search of the site and didn't come up with much about hair/hare jigs. To satisfy my curiosity... who on here (if anyone) ties their own hair or hare jigs?

It almost seems like you have to know someone to get decent bass hair jigs that aren't meant for the float and fly. I have all the stuff to tie my own, just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. If you find any good one's, be sure to post them.

I've been tying hair/hare/feather jigs for my own fishing for years. I was wanting to know if there was anyone else on this site to compare notes and recipes with.

Is there a tutorial covering posting pictures somewhere on the site?

First you have to get on photobucket or flicker or a site similar.
I struggled with posting pics for a while.

This site helped me learn.
Actually I have a printed copy to refer to.
Others do it maybe differently but here's a good starting point.

Really is a fairly easy deal once you get the hang of it.
I'm a computer illiterate and this site allows me to post NOW.

So now I'm going to hi-jack my own thread... Apparently to upload a picture link to this site I must have the pic come from another web site such as "Flicker" or "PhotoBucket". When I join one of these sites and upload pics to that site do the pics remain private and un-viewable to others on that site? Is one of these sites better (as in easier to use) than the others? I can't upload a pic directly from my computer picture library to this site as I can on Facebook??? Thanks in advance for sharing this info.

When you go to "Go Advanced" at the bottom of the reply box, you will see a paper clip icon. This will allow you to attach a picture from your computer without using a photo hosting site.

Having my roots in trout fishing fly tying, after an accident ruined my hand for delicate operation switched to bass fishing. So tied jigs and bass flies and spinners using hair.
Large wholly buggerrs, spinners with sq tail, and jigs are all effective.Hair jigs smallies and cool water come hand in hand.Ive had better luck with browns and black not blue n black.
Fox,raccoon, squirrel, rabbit and of course all water furbearers do well in some form or another.Deer hair being hollow exception buck tail, with wrapped rooster feathers creating critter type legs-whooly bugger, bright colors working in those like orange yellow, with a wrapped lead wire can even toss short distances with a spinning outfit or toss with a float or another bait.
The common hair jig no problem as tied on standard jig head. While I have a vise can be done without as large enough, all one needs is hair and jig and practice cement with clear fingernail polish no need for fancy stuff, still lasts for years.

This photo shows one pattern in the four colors I most often fish. Rabbit zonker body, bucktail wing and (sometimes) a few strands of Flashabou... pretty simple. Most of the time I tie these on a Brewer's spider head or a modified Gopher Tackle stand up head (both shown). I swim or drag them as I do a grub or worm anytime I think a more "finesse" presentation will be of value (year round). The firetiger color does catch smallies (and pike) in my usually pretty clear water... go figure. The biggest down-side to these jigs is getting a long cast away from my boat. They weigh in somewhere between 1/16 & 3/32 oz. A 7' 6" med. light Techna AV spinning rod loaded with 8lb NanoFil has done the best job tossing them. I do tie and fish a couple of other patterns if anyone is interested. Frankly, I wasn't certain I would get one picture posted correctly!

With those heads resemble streamers ,clouser minnow wouldn't be hard to make. Rabbit strip works wonders as well as tinsel. After viewing will make one on a slider head as liked it.
With a standard head more like a crawfish.

I don't have Gobies in my lakes, but if you would pardon that inexperience... I would tie a dark olive rabbit zonker tail with a color matched palmered cross-cut rabbit strip body. If I could find a long-shank, 60 degree eye football jig I'd tie on it. If not I'd use a heavier version of the stand-up head shown above. Palmering the body with a cross-cut rabbit strip will provide a much fuller profile than those in the picture above. The jigs above actually fish a lot more slender than they appear when dry.

I'm hoping there are other ideas as well.

This would be the conventional weighted fly, eyes are dumbbell 1/4 oz, jig head could be used instead,I prefer spun deer hair body with the zonker strip will actually float without the weight called a dahlburg diver works on stripers and muskies as well, used on say a 8-9 wght flyrod
