If I could just stop…
…over-thinking the situation and buy what I need.
You see, I need to replace a couple of rods that broke. But every time I go to Dick’s, Bass Pro, Cabelas, or wherever, I see spinning combos that cost about the same as a rod by itself. So of course I start looking, touching, turning handles and think to myself; “hell, I might as well get a combo if it’s the same price as that rod I was looking at…”. The problem is two-fold:
Why can’t I just simply pick up the rod, walk to the checkout and pay for it? Do I have a mental issue? Do most anglers go through this? Or am I just a cheap bassturd? |

No mental issue, its just a great marketing ploy. I have just told myself that they are all crap, this is probably not the case, but if I think that way I usually just pass them by and don't have to worry about regretting it in a week.

bassin's right, no mental issue, I'm sure we've all done it. Butdo what you said. don't even grab your rod and go look at other tackle. Go to the store, grab the rod you want, and walk to the checkout.
If you want to, come to the BPS here and buy a couple rod for me... ya know, to practice. BB

hhhhuuuuuummmmm thinks the bait monkey is holding strongly to this one. lol. i hear ya pal for real. after you have had enough of these "cheap" combos and you aer really ready to get serious, you'll get that better rod instead of the combos buddy. i too look at the combos. but i have enough of those thrown in the trash. now if i can just save up for the REALLY good rods instead of buying tackle and bait, lmao.

Never bought a combo. Although some of the ones BPS and Cabelas sell are good. Take Bamas advice and buy the good rod. Take care of it and it will serve you very well over the life of a cheaper combo.

No, it is a mental issue. Just cause most of us are insane doesn't render that insanity unimportant.
If you know what you need to be doing, do it. Go get a rod and be done.
