Lake St. Clair 5/22
It's a little late... but I went to LSC on Saturday and the weatherman was way off. Winds were out of the east and the 1' waves that they were calling for were in the 2'-3' range. The water was brown so I pretty much knew it was going to be a long day. We started out with rain, rain and more rain and took a couple over the bow (needed to clean my deck anyway) but it finally cleared up and turned out to be a pretty decent day. I only caught 8 or 9 smallies, missed one right at the boat and had two other "nice" misses. Cliff only got one smallie and about 15 rock bass. I had no idea that lake had that many rock bass! Well here are some pics.
Cliff's first LSC smallie (early in the day) Big fish - was just shy of 3lbs. (later in the day) |

Wow, sounds like a good day... but a bad day for St. Clair. Ain't it just a shame how fast the smallmouth fishing goes bad when the water gets colored up... What were you guys catching your fish on?

It was a bad day for LSC. I was there last year and had a 20+ fish day and most of them were in the 3-4 lb range. I've heard the story of 100 fish days in the spring out there..... All the fish were caught on a red and brown tube called "Great Lakes Craw". They are made/designed by a local here in MI. |

Nice fish. I lived for two years only a few miles from Lake St. Clair but never fished it....maybe one of these days I'll get over to that side of the state and get a shot at those smallies
