boat show report
well i am back from the huntsville boat show. and to tell you the truth....it was a big BUST. i mean there were some very nice boats there. not many dealers though. and only 2, count em, TWO vendors there. and when i say vendors....i mean fishing vendors. yes i did manage to buy some things. but nothing to really brag on.
and YES i did meet ROLAND MARTIN himself. listened to him speak. and listen, i know most of you here don't like his sell whatever you have ways. he talked about fishing. the wheres, whats, and how tos. and he was very nice off stage as well. i did have a pic made, or should i say TRIED to get someone to take it for me. but my little wally world "clerance" camera did not work, and there were 15 people waiting to do the same. i do have an autographed pic of him too. but he and i were talking about where i live and fish. and before i could say "jones cove", he said it first. he remembered fishing the underground stream in it and to the left of the cliff. told me he caught alot of quality fish there. and that it was just one of his favorite areas to fish on guntersville lake. then he proceded to tell me of another spot. now get this, he said to launch at south sauty. go straight across and go up to the end of THAT cove, fishing the laydowns along the way. and what with? you guessed it, zoom lizard, or a jig. ow i have grown up fishing these 2 areas as a kid. but it did impress me that he remembers these areas specifitly (spelling, i know). so i have to hand it to him, he KNOWS his fishing. love him or hate him...he is a very knowegable fisherman. |

No doubt he is a great fisherman. He basically did to himself kinda what Ike is doing to himself now, alienated a whole bunch of people - but the guy knows his stuff.

i always make a little fun of roland martin and bill dance because of their shameless plugs and their willingness to advertise anything but the bottom line is that those guys can fish. and given the chance any of us who make fun of them would still like to meet and talk fishing with them (whether we admit it or not) very cool that you got to meet him bama.

hahaha wtl. yep if ol bill wuz there i would have reminded him of that i promise. and we ALL make fun of these two guys. but, as i said and ya'll agree with me. they DO know fishing. and it was nice to talk to roland one on one.
and i was just thinking that it would be a lot of fun and a learning experience to have roland in the boat with me for a day. even ol bill or hank parker or heck,....any of them. |

Glad you got to meet RM John. I've always liked him. The fact is Bass Fishing is a billion dollar business. All the pros look like walking billboards. Can't blame them. Heck, if I had the chance, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Plus, you get to do a heck of a lot of fishing. I've been around a few pros and they all seemed to be pretty good guys. C-rig, I like Hank too.

though i don't like the "salesman" he has become there is no one who says he sucks as a fisherman..you have to be VERY good to fish at his level..
