Well nice to be back. Jetlag whacked me hard, so I am in for a sleepless night. The food we eat there is pretty much the same mom cooks at home. First thing I ate when I got back was chicken nuggets... man I missed those.

haha. I am having problems with my jetlag, but all 103 of my pictures have finally been uploaded. It is 1:23 AM over here, but I'll post anyway. Most of the fishing pictures are taken by random villagers who have never touched a camera before. I give them the camera and give them a five second crash course so they can take pics... however they are not brilliant.
So, while fishing in india, I first tried a canal. It was a 5 minute walk. However, people bathe there and I have a feeling it isn't too good for the fish. Now, I was going for carp with a size 6 hook. The villagers decided my hook was humongous, and a size 8 was too big as well. I was sitting around using a size 12, which is smaller than my thumbnail. Surprisingly, it caught lots of fish. me fishing at the canal my prodigy... the village's best fisherman, although they use bamboo sticks, some string, and hooks without eyes... prodigy number two rigging up an indian style bobber on my line. It is som type of floating wood. after giving up on carp in about 3 days, I decided to go with worms. From then on I caught atleast 50 catfish, all about this size. And Even this! Now, if you look to the top of the picture, you can see another river across the canal. That is the mahanadi river, biggest in our state. I was afraid of getting there, because of the canal's current. I could not get around the canal because it would be a two mile walk to either one of the two bridges then two miles to the spot I would want to get to. Then I figured, hey, I'll just try swimming it. After a few test swims, I figured I could get across. The water is dirty as anything, but it was in the name of fishing. I had to swim with one hand, and usually drifted far down the canal before i got to the end. Holding a full fishing rig in one hand while swimming against a current is pretty hard. Anyway, I wasn't able to take a camera there... I would never be able to pull that off. At the canal, I caught some species I didn't know much about on corn, potatos, and dough. Likely to be related to carp. Most were in the 1 or two pound range. I did find some of that fish at a market and took a few pics. See if you know what it is. At the river, i caught mostly those and some other species I will get to later. So one day, I took a trip to Chilika, India's largest brackish water lagoon. The car ride was long due to heavy traffic. but we got there... at night but I casted a line anyway. I was skunked at night but got right back to it in the morning. Some type of panfish. Not sure exactly what. A little on the silvery side, quite flashy. Now, while fishing, some Indian movie star was having a photoshoot. An American fishing rig was completely new over there, never sen before. Infact, I usually fished with a huge crowd staring at me. So, the photographer was completely bespelled by my fishing rod and asked if he could borrow it for he actor to do an entire photoshoot with it. Of course the actor had no idea what he was doing... After 5 minutes I ad him atleast holding it right. Notice what is lying on his shoulder. Oh and I saw a peacock in some woods... So, we boated to a temple. After walking around I got back to fishing. Nada, possibly due to these guys I have never seen a net so huge. Ok so by then my trip was almost over, but then my uncle took me to a new part of the canal. Not uncle Melosh, mind you. Over there, I caught a few of these. I have no idea what they are, but they were caught off of bee larva. We took a hive, ripped open the little... things on it, and inside were eveloping bees that we rigged up. Sort of like yellow grubs. Anyway, that concludes my trip. oh and the sunset was cool

haha, thanks guys. Actually, about the AC. We had AC in our village house, but it had a habbit of shorting out the entire village's electricity. Whenever I would turn it on, there would be a power ouotage.
JB- that's a great tat. planning on any new ones lately?

I bet the village thought royality had moved in with them huh? Was it hard to communicate with the locals now that you're somewhat americanized? |

As far as the mystery fish is concerned, due to the size of the scales most likely a close relative to carp.
Looks like a fun trip...imagine Cranky rubbing elbows with movie stars, swimming pools..sounds like the start to a sitcom..hmmm
