Midas
Didn't want to hijack Zook's post on the Okuma reel but I've been throwing the Browning Midas this spring. Yesterday I decided to let a swim bait fly deep into the pad field I was fishing. I was amazed at the distance I was getting from this reel . Part of the reason I believe for the distance was the extra wide spool and it's matched with a wrap around rod. I really let one go and just watched it sail. As I said....amazed. It outperforms my Shimano Scorpion.
I can't wait until the topwater bite kicks in on the river. |

i had a pinnacle 100 bait caster that simply was awesome at throwing a light finesse baits.. i tried it on crank baits man did it flat sling a shad rap.. my problem with it was it was too small to fit my big old paws and would cramp up my hand after about an hour..
i gave it to a friend.. zooker

BPS has it listed for $149 but it was $99 during the spring sale. I picked up the wide spool with the heavier drag (16.5 lbs).
Only negative - small angular edge on right side of the reel that my hand hasn't gotten used to it being there. Other than that no complaints. Zooker - this isn't a small reel. Too bad you didn't make it up to test this one out. |

i looked up that reel in a combo from bps for $199.
proves the "get what you pay for" theory, i know somebody that bought one of the cheaper brownings and hates it. it makes noises when you cast that sound like a transmission going out. |

Every company is like that. I've purchased a bunch of Shimano's, Abu's, and Quantum's over the years in all price ranges. I've purchased a bad reel every once in a while. Doesn't matter which brand, bait casting or spinning. But I've also got some great reels too.
