The long road to baitcasterville
I just got back from Jb's house and he help me and showed me how to put the line on and the adjustments of the brake and drag.I came home and pitched and flipped till my left hand went numb from the COLD!!!!! I was having fun...Yes I had a few backlashes...nothin major.I had already been practicing with a baitcaster that Jb let me use.I think I got the mechanics of it down, now for the fine tuning.I think I will pick it up quickly because I'm pretty cordinated. Thanks again jb!!!Good feeling having another fishing technique Good day all. Denny, I think you will really like using a baitcaster. One thing with the braid, though-after you catch one pull some line off-I don't care what kind you use when there is a lot of tension in the line it will dig in. Pulling some line out pulls the "dig" out and won't pull your cast up short about 10 feet from the rod tip.

Awesome Denny. I probably pitch more than anything anymore, and love it. I however dislike Flipping. Keep the ice off it for awhile though LOL.

both myself and lizard have the same problem when flippin can't get the blasted bait to enter quietly.

zooker,
try raising your rod tip and thumb the spool right as the lure looks like its going to land in the water, with some practise you 'll start noticing ripples on entry instead of a splash |

Denny, I love flippin more than pitchin! I can get the lure to queitly enter the water both ways, and am more accurate with flipping. I am currently using a Quantum Tour Edition Rod, 7ft 6in flippin stick heavy action, with a round cabelas reel and 20 lb test. It is a winch

Pitchin is actually esier to learn or at least for me. Flippin is harder to get a quiet entry, but once you get it, you can be the quietest person on the lake.

Man I can pitch so much easier than flip...I can't quite understand that whole pull out line thing and stuff. Seems like it lands right in front of me, whereas pitching I can get it out there pretty daggone far.

Try holding your handles down toward the water and pull back line to you're back pocket, thats enough line to work with when you up close n tight

I don't do this much anymore but I got a bucket and filled it with water to pratice my flippin and pitching for zero splash on entry.

Thats how i practice my pitching. My next door neighbor has a raised deck that is practically the same thing as a dock, so I take a bucket and put it underneath and around the legs and pitch to it. Its pretty good practice.

Another great practice technique . . .
I tie on a casting plug and cast inside my house. My dog, Rugby, will try to mouth the plug. The goal is to cast the plug in a spot where I can buy enough time to get the plug back out before my dog gets it. This seems to improve my accuracy. Also entertains my dog. Good stuff to do during the winter. |
