It does seem boring, but I would imagine that would all change once you hook a 5+ pounder. Sadly, I wouldn't know YET.

any favorite lures for flippin?

You don't really need a flippin' stik, but the 7'6" rod does help you get some distance. I flip jigs or plastics like the Wooly bugger or tubes. Also Craws are great to flip/pitch. I do a lot more pitching cause I find it easier.

sweet.. well theres lots of pads in my favorite pond but we try to draw them out with a buzz or popper.. July 4th my uncle wants to go.. so i can show him how to fish in the 21st century lol but hoping i can go before i go with im.. to try this flippin thing.

what would happen if i pitched with that 12' rod lol

No if you don´t flip into the extra heavy cover like brushes, downed trees, brush piles, holes in lily pad beds or tule beds. If you flip in to those then you gotta have a pool cue ( aka flipping rod ) for a rod to rip the fish form it.

We don't have much in the way of extra heavy cover up here, so my flippin' stik is actually a 7'6" MH telescoping rod. I really like it, and it's better cause my dad built it for me

i found the perfect place to flip.. and i "aquired " a one man canoe today too.. so when we tested it out i went back into a little cove with it.. looks perfect

well i got one of my old backup reels zebco X280 or something.. on a 6' medium rod.. lined it with braid, bullet weight and a hook.. and had some fun flippin or w/e in my yard.. havent tried pitching but i can get more distance it looks like while flippin..

Give pitching a try. Pitching does get more distance than flippin because you have the reel freespool where flipping the reel is engaged. Atleast that's how I do it. I may be doing it wrong and maybe that's why I suck azz at flipping.

oh.. i never free spooled mine lol i just had it closed and had about 4 foot of line out plus a bout 4 on the end and got some swing to it and letter loose..

Flipping looks like a good way to get those FINNICKY fish that just wont bite! IF its hot, they will be under cover(shade). So getting right in their faces will produce more fish!

Let me ask you guys this.. when pitchin' and using those heavy weights to punch cover, this makes your worm fall really fast making it look unnatural. I was told to use light weights when using worms so they sink naturally. Any ideas??? DAVE

Dave-with the heavy bait you are fishing on the initial fall for a reaction bite. When a heavy bait goes rockketing towards the bottom in front of a fish they will often grab it in the split second it is in their face.

Like Raul said, you need a rod with a lot of backbone and heavy line, i.e. braid, to horse the fish out of cover.

I use a true flipping rod for flipping, but a 7' XH Falcon Cara for pitching. Not as heavy(weight) as the flipping stick and I pitch more than flip.

on drag.. does it need to be locked down.. or in the middle.. or what?

lock it down, you dont want any give while your pulling hogs out of the slop.
Make sure your rod and reel can handle it, I chewed up a browning reel playing in the slop.

Yup, lock it down. Abu reels are great for flippin/pitching in heavy slop cause they have a stronger drag than other reels. Then you just have to make sure your rod can handle it. and don't go over the line recomendations on your rod.
