Even at the end of his 2nd term, he was far from brain dead. Very old, yes. Some senility may have seeped in right at the end. But if you have ever known a really old person, they have good days and bad.

I think Reagan the man overshadowed his policy failures as President. The GOP has made him into an unquestioned icon and the personification of the pure conservative ideal and this has hurt the party as Reagan was far from perfect and might have had more failures than successes.

I also think your harsh statement is indicative of the foolish things people believe when it comes to high profile figures. If the guy is from a different party, you have the beleive the worst about them instead of looking at the person with objectivity. For the same reason, people believe Obama is the anti-Christ, a muslim, the next hitler, and not an American citizen. The lengths people go to so that they may glorify their idols and tear down the other guys false idols are truly astonishing.

This is a great observation/position. I definetly feel the same about radicalism in either respect, whether its liberalism or conservatism.
