Well, the cool mornings have been great. That first ride has required a set of wind pants and a wind breaker. I had to wear the wind breaker one morning till about 8:30. The fishing is heating up. The bass are moving good in the morning on top water baits like frogs, pop’r type baits, weightless Lake Fork Tackle Zig Zags, Twitch worms, Wave Tiki Sticks. The grass has been the best area to work these baits. Some mornings a quick jerk and stop will get you bit and others a dead stick is the presentation. My spinner bait bite was a little slower this week than it has been. But did produce some fish. The ½ and ¼ ounce lipless crank bait have been the best bait this week. I am keying on points with the visible stumps and small bushes that are usually under water that you don’t see. I have found that with the low water these areas are close to a little deeper. I am seeing large schools of shad in 12 to 13 foot of water on the bottom. The Texas and Carolina rig has been good this week. Wave Worms has come out with a new bait called a Tiki Monkey it is a great looking bait. This has been good on the rigs. Check them out at the local area stores here on lake Fork. The Lake Fork Tackle Twitch worm, Flipper. And small and large creature have been good on the rigs. Work the mouth’s of the creeks and down the channels. Flipping jigs is a great big fish pattern and hit all the stumps along the channels edges. Cranking a big crank bait down the middle is another big fish pattern. With the water low you can see the channels and how they run.
Like I told you last week this is a time of year that the fish are scattered from the shallow to deep water. So if you like fishing the bank get after it and if you like to fish deep go get’um. There are some schooling fish but I didn’t see them this week. Location is key to seeing them. It wont be long till they will be all over the lake. The best advice I can give you is get your BUTT to the lake and go fishing. The lake is 4 feet 6 inches low. I don’t think there is a closed ramp on the lake. There maybe some issues with the ramps having sand washed in on it causing the trailer to be lopsided when you back in. But for the most part all are launch able. If you use the 515 east ramp give Sabine a call and complain about the sand issue on the ramp. I have called and reported it but if we could get a group of calls maybe they would send a crew out to pull the sand off the ramp. 1-903 878-2262 just in case you need it. The Mc Donald tournament is just a week away. You need to get the last minute glitches fixed and get into the tournament mode. The biggest thing to remember that sportsman ship should be shown at all times. Don’t pull in on other fishermen if you see them boat a fish. You wouldn’t want this to happen to you. Be safe on the water and drive your boat safe. Have your partner help you keep and eye out for other fishermen who will be running.
