Default Leaving the addiction to the grandkids.

I always hear the great stories of those anglers digging through grandpa's garage or basement and finding hoards of neat if not great lures from times passed.
My father died when I was five and both granddads were long gone before I was born so I never fished with them or my dad.
Fact is, I don't even know if any of them fished even.
The grandkids are active anglers now but who knows what the future will bring.

So while going through last years equipment and preparing for this years onslaught I decided to start a 'LARGE' box and started making a great fishing arsenal.
I took five of last years best preforming lures and double them up still in original packaging.
I put two in so the kids can fish one and leave one to the next generation.
I then printed out a brief description of how 'I' liked to fish said lures and a few brief stories of hogs they have caught for me.
I then vacuum sealed them and tossed it into a box.
That box is clearly labeled and my boy knows what is expected from him.
Keionna and Carson both love to fish with Papa but you never know where their interests will lye tomorrow.
If they continue to fish so be it. If not they can stash it for their kids or even kid's kids.

The smiles it has already brought me from the visions of great grandkids opening up a box FULL of quality fishing gear from a guy they have never even met....as they say, 'PRICELESS'!

Just thought I'd share and some of you may find the idea appealling too.

I know many have kids that fish actively now and 'WE' assume stuff will get handed down.
May not be the case, kids today have different ideas about the value of the past and the lessons learned from it.
For those who can fish today have a great day on the water.
For the rest, "Have a great day DREAMING of fishing!"

Oh, snuck out and caught a dozen Walleye 'eaters' out of the river yesterday. Their spawn is late so my guess is the bass' will be too.

Have the very best day you possible can...PLEASE.

Pass it on down, brother. There isn't a higher calling as far as fishing goes IMO.

My dad started me perch jerking with a cane pole and here I am many years later on a fishing forum. Sorry you missed out-I can relate as far as grandfathers go-one was gone way beore I was born and the other left us when I was 18 months old.

I've got a 4 year old from church that has really latched on to me an is starting to ask about fishing. Already heve a Zebco 33 rigged up for him
