Anyone thought about a prize for the biggest bass caught? That could make for some fun competition.

I'm never about competition when it comes to fishing, takes the fun out of it for me. But, I fully understand that factor is in play for many. I've no problem, and would very likely contribute, to an optional lunker pot - happens at most gatherings of two or more anglers.

I think everyone will be fishing Wheeler on Friday & Saturday, a lunker pot those days is OK by me. $5 on Friday and $10 on Saturday - who's game?

I'll only take part in a lunker pot if the loser has to pose for a picture wearing The Pink Hoody.

We've got a baitmonkey trophy somewhere. If it hasn't been sent to someone else for a different event, JB should still have it from KY Lake...

I just sent JB a message on Facebook to check if he still has it, and invited him, too.

No garantee where I will be fishing each day...but normally when I stay at the cabins I hit wilson %75 percent of the time. Wilson has more big fish spots within a general 6 mile radius than that part of wheeler imo.

I'm following Billy......................
Well, just got back from my buddy the soft plastic guru, and had some baits made up for Guntersville. Maybe some of them might also be useful at Wheeler, we'll see. I have some test baits that have color change pigments in them and I can't wait to try them out. They are very new to me, and it just remains to be seen how the fish like them.

the "PRIZE" is sort of a trophy boogieman and others. it is a wood plaque that given to whomever catches the biggest bass during the event. the first year, i bought trophies, 1 for the biggest, 1 for the most, and 1 for the smallest. lisa won the smallest trophy, hahaha. wasn't me, lmao! since then she has competed for the big one. MISSISSIPPIGAL ALMOST own it at kentucky , but jack blakeman won it. he will send the "trophy" to me before the event and i will bring it. hge regrests he won't make it this time too.

now billy, oyu say ther are bigger largemouth or bigger smallies in wilson?

THIS IS GONNA BE A BLOWOUT GANG!!! I AM REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT. i just can't WAIT, although i know i will, till time!

Knowing JB, I would not be surprised to see that the trophy has been altered in some way.
Maybe enhanced would be a better term to use. lol

Don't count yourself out yet, 'bama. As a brand new "field tester", a couple of those brand new "secret" baits are on the way, as well as a few other goodies. You won't be the only one fishing them though. Enjoy! LOL.

Well thats not exactly what I would say. I think either lake has the same big fish potential, IE, there is no lake that is capped at say 8 pounds. Both lakes have big fish, I think wilson might have a world record smallie, and wheeler is probably up there too.

I just think that wilson is a little more fishable. Yall can probably equate this to your local reservoirs, down towards the dam they all share the characteristics of being deeper, sometimes clearer with fish perhaps being a little more touchy. And below most dams you have shallower water that is much more fishable, obvious current breaks, visible rock structure, and for the first couple miles of wilson it is decidedly shallower than lower wheeler. Now once you start heading towards florence, wilson gets deep as hell and you are basically left to fish rocky banks and docks. Then, below wilson dam on pickwick is the same thing, shallower, rocks, current, and islands. Then pickwick gets deep. So I guess I am just saying it is a little easier below dams.

o9k, i gothcha now. that is why i was thinking of hitting 1st and second creeks right off the bat. may go up river a ways. hit the creeks coming in ya kow. and oyu make a great point about wilson, we are gonna be RIGHT there at the shallow end, launch, fish. lol, no problem mon!

I am wondering if side imaging is going to make the deeper areas more "fishable" as you say. I can literally see a rock pile, see fish holding on it, mark it on the graph, and stay on it. I am really looking forward to fishing bluffs and deeper water.

I would think SI would be most helpful. One of the reasons I bought one was to get off the bank. LOL. Only have a little 798 but I wanted to try one before I go overboard on a larger unit. This trip in May will be a good trial run. Maybe you can help me in understand what it is I'll be seeing on the screen.
