Default Winter Projects - My Rod Builds

Hey everybody! I finally had a chance to snap some photos of my winter projects. I wish I could get better at both, rod building and taking pictures.

Anywhooo, the first rod is a drop shot rod I built on a Batson RainShadow RX8+S822.5 blank. I built it with cork handles, fuji reel seat, and fuji alconite guides (K series and #4 micros). This is my 4th rod, and to date, the best I have built. I am really happy about this rod and can't wait to get her wet. Here are some pics.

The second rod is a crankbait rod I built on a Batson RainShadow EGlass GCB70M blank (small shallow running cranks). I built it with cork handles, fuji reel seat, and fuji #4 micros. This rod has a sister but I didn't take any pictures of her. I built it exactly the same, but she was on a GCB710MH (large deep diving cranks). Here are some pics of the 7 footer.

I still have some work to do to get better at applying the finish and applying the decals, but overall.........I am really happy with the progress. I am building another Batson RainShadow RX8+ now for Senkos. I am impressed with those blanks for sure.

Hope all is well with everybody!

Tony

I did. The one problem I ran into is that the K Series Fuji guides only go to 12 and I could have really used a 10 or 8 to reduce the size quicker and space the guides out better. I figured I will be dropping it over the edge more vs casting it.......so I didn't sweat it too much.

I am anxious to see how the K Series guides work out though.......especially when casting. They will get a work out on that Senko rod I am building.

The K series have 10mm-4mm (BKTAGS)..Their not the tall leg,but should work just fine.

I like the K series, just could never get locking wraps to look clean with the frame design...Thats why I havent used the 4mm guides yet.

Great work man, they look sweet! I agree that the bigger the pictures the better as well. Bigger pictures help the old fogies like bamabassman hahaha.

Nice work Tony! Both rods look really clean! Is that Fishhawk Variegated thread on the spinning rod? We will have to compare notes, I'm building a finesse casting rod on a RX8 822.5 blank. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Really nice work! I hope they provide you with a lot of good fishing!

Thanks!

Yep, its the variegated thread. From the first time I saw it, I knew I wanted to try it. Thats about all the bling I will do, if you want to call that bling.

Send me a note about your 822.5 when you get the time.

The rod and new logo look awesome Tony! I have 6 or 7 spools of the varigated thread too, but I haven't used it on a build yet. I did some test tiger wraps with it though, and it came out looking pretty good. That #4 makes that blank look like a broom stick hahahaha. Give us a report when you get to fish them.
