Default Nice 6XD fish

Trying to gain some confidence in deep cranks. I did ok last year with a Little John DD and a SK 5XD but nothing very great. This year I've caught a 7.51 on a Series 5 then last Friday I was doing pretty well with a 5XD but marking bigger marks on a ledge in the 19-22 foot range so I decided to break out the 6XD. I've caught a grand total of 1 fish on the thing so I wasn't exuding confidence. I managed to catch a couple small fish (about all the lake ever produces) when my bait came off a limb and got thumped. At 4.23 pounds she wasn't a monster but it felt good to get a good fish on it. That 6XD is a big bait but it doesn't look so big when the fish coughs something like what she did up in the boat!

Eating stuff that large id toss a 10xd,lol tried that recently got a large drum and mid sized striper on Pickwick.
Odd I get bit bad on sexy chart shad in a 3x but not on the 5-6 or 10.
One should get an award for tossing a ten all day,or let you weigh it in at the end of the day.Nice fish, what prey tell is the secret banging it off stuff?

I have no desire to fish the 10XD, it dwarfs the 6XD and that thing is a monster. A lot of our lakes are shallower then 30' so not a lot of call for the 10XD. My guess why you're having success with the smaller 3XD instead of the 5 or 6 is a lot of shad have just hatched recently and the bass are eating lots of smaller baitfish. The difference here is a lot of the lakes I fish don't have shad so bluegills are the primary forage. The bluegills have just started spawning so the average bait the bass are eating is a bit larger than normal.
For me the secret seems to be getting the bait to hit bottom occasionally without really dredging bottom. If I can get it just ticking along the bottom it seems I get hit a lot more often.

Very nice bass! We see crawdads sticking out of the throats of river smallmouth all the time... but to my delight they still slam topwater!
