Default In case you haven't heard yet

The week following the Bassmaster Classic, Grand Lake gave up a new lake record. It was caught in a Nichols Marine tournament which is the biggest trail on Grand (each tournament has over 300 boats in it). She weighed 12.28 and was part of a bag that weighed just under 25lbs. After the weigh in and getting pictures and the official weight of the fish, she was released back into Grand.

She was caught on an Alabama rig. I have mixed feelings about that, but it is what it is.

I would have loved to see one like that caught at the classic. But I'd like it even more if it was at the end of my line! haha

yes i saw that kory, AWESUM bass. and even though this may sound crazy, i TOO have mixed emotions about the A-rig. i have a few (thanks guys, oyu know who oyu are) but i haven't caught a SINGLE dink on em as of yet.i'll give it another shot when i get back out on the water (whenever THAT is, lol) and see if it does ME any good.

one thing i DO know is this..you BETTER be in shape to sling that thang for SURE. after throwing it a few times, i got tired QUICK. maybe if i TROLLED with it? with only the troling motor i mean. anyone heard of or has done that?

OK Mike. I'll do it for you.

I HATE COLD WEATHER!

Actually hate probably isn't strong enough.

Been following your outings Mike, doesn't look like tank top weather in your neck of the woods.
Oh and thanks for your threads....love it when the kids are along to teach you old anglers a thing or TWO.

Wow...both of those fish are monsters....Cedar lake is a small electric only lake, located just across the OK/AR border from me.....I knew these small mountain lakes around here had to grow some hawgs in them...One of these days I'm gonna hang into one of them big boys.

Just read an article on Dale.

He caught that fish on borrowed rod and reel and a motified 'borrowed' umbrella rig.
Neighbor who owns a bait shop told Dale and his brother what to fish but Dale didn't have a stout enough rod for umbrellaing so the guy let him use his setup and his umbrella rig.

Caught it within 30 minutes after launch.
Was Dales first trip ever to the Lake.
Lake is only 78 acres.
Dale's first time throwing an umbrella rig.

So anyone around here ever fish Cedar Lake?

In closing I find it entertaining to know that the majority of 'big fish' come when your least expecting it and usually when your not even fishing for 'big fish'.
But I guess 'we' are always looking for big fish.

Some refer this success to luck.
I beleive we create our luck by having an open mind to new ideas and experimenting with them.
And BIG FISH CAN COME FROM SMALL WATERS!

Those are great fish, no doubt. Everyone has a right to decide whether to keep or release a fish, but I hate to see top breeders with genetics to grow large babies taken. Taxidermists these days don't use any of the fish in making the mount, they just need pics and measuements. Others can do what they will, but if I'm ever lucky enough to tie in to a trophy like that it will never see dry land, just a camaera lens.

Not trying to start a feud here, just wanted to make the point about mounts.

I don't mount but you got to take fish to certified scale or it's just another fish tale.
