Default Hats off to Kentucky!!!

Kentucky is the second state in the nation to sanction competitive bass fishing as a high school sport. More than 400 colleges and universities offer a partial or full scholarships for bass anglers.

Boasting that “bass fishing is the best equal opportunity sport that there is” the state of Kentucky has become the second state to make competitive bass fishing a sanctioned sport in its high schools. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association will now recognize high school bass fishing on the same level as basketball, football, baseball, softball and other high school sports and allow individual schools to compete for area, region and state championships.

Oh, Il. was first.

That's pretty cool! Do you know how they will be handling specifics? Such as will each competing school provide the bass boat, or boat? What will be done to ensure everything is above board while those kids are on the water?

I had some similar thoughts. Since in every sport the uniforms and equipment are provided, I was wondering how things would work in fishing.

The way I understand it is that kids at high school level have local volunters coach, teach, provide safty lessons ect.
Usually local business donate as sponsers but any boat is legal.
Il. had a couple kids take a tourney in a camo duck boat.

I'm sure as it grows politics will get involved.....may even ruin it.
Basically, I fished from a flat with JUST buddies at 14 years old.
But again, my understanding is the members sign something that makes school not liable for personal accidents.
Jerseys are easy to get from locals and most competiters already have equipment....minus a boat.

Neat thing is the fish doesn't know if your 6 foot or 4'2". Cares less if your a boy or a girl.
Heck college is still in it's infancy.

Bottom line....IT'S A GREAT IDEA!
