Default Fishin a tournament today...

I got a call from a guy I know this morning asking if I'd be interested in fishin a local tournament with him this evening. I don't really know the guy all that well....We met thru our kids being friends a few years back ,but recently we keep runnin into each other in the fishin section of Walmart and we usually talk bass fishin....LOL.....Imagine that.

This is suppse to be a small time "just fer fun" type of tournament that goes from 6:30 to 10:30pm on one of the small lakes I fish regularly, and it's just $20 per boat to enter, so I figured what the heck.....Why not......The worst that could happen is I'm out $10......I'm actually more interested in fishin with another bass angler.....I figure I'll learn something.....lol......Wish us luck.

Good luck, and stick with your strengths. Is this a lake you know, or new water?

If I had to guess, I'd say it's one of the lakes he fished regularly.

Good luck 66! Like MB said, stick with what you have confidence in.

Good luck man, might be the best time yet! I've been to a lake that actually costs $10 for non-county residents to fish in... So that seems like a great price for a friendly competition.

I have caught bass from this lake we'll be fishin so I feel "so-so" about catchin something this evening......I'll do what I've done before and hope something works...lol

I'm anxious to fish from his boat since he has one of them new fangled side scan sonar thingamajiggers....lol.....I hope to spot some underwater structure that I never knew existed, and log that location to my brain for later use......If'n thats possible with my brain...lol

Well....We had 5 boats show up so we had a $100 pot to shoot for......At the end of the night a single bass won it all......It weighed half a pound, and was 12" long....lol.....I kid you not....What kills me is that I caught a nice bass but at 15.5" it fell within the lakes "slot limit" of 13"-16" so I wasn't able to weigh it.

The guy I was fishin with only caught one bass tonite and it didn't even make the 10" minimum, so I felt like I held my own, and I didn't smell skunk....lol......I did what you guys said, and stuck with my strengths and a trusty jig & craw was what caught my bass.

The weather got weird on us once the tournament started.....It was hot and sunny, then within half an hour it got stormy lookin and the wind went from none, to 30+mph, and that lasted till about the time the sun went down, then it calmed down again.....We never did get rained on but it looked like it was gonna unload on us at any minute. We sure put his big ol trollin motor thru a workout I know that....lol

All in all I had a ball, and will definately do another one of these hometown Tuesday night tournaments......It was $10 well spent.

Sounds like you had a good time, and that is the most important thing. That sucks about your fish falling in the slot though. Well better luck next time!

We have several weekly night tournaments on Lake Allatoona (by my house). When my boat is running I usually fish about 3 of them a week. I treat them like a night out bowling with my buddies. It's a great way to break up the work week and take your mind off other things for a while. Except on Tuesday nights, I am Deadliest Catch "addict"! lol

Those are the tournaments I really like. My buddy does one on Kent Lake in Michigan every other Tuesday and many of us made a tradition of going out to eat afterward which was fun too. Basically a bunch of buddies out fishing rather than a super competitive environment and the bragging right were just as important as the cash.
