The Instant Fisherman is it an ok rod just to go fishing like when i see a pond at my work not as an all the time rod but as a back up rod so i dont haft to have my big ones in me car

JUNK JUNK JUNK!!! You can find a good 2 piece rod with a zebco33 that's just as portable for what that junk cost.

I completely agree with moose here, I've seen one the Instant Fisherman in action and the thing is AWFUL!!

Just by a $ 10 two piece rod and a zebco like Moose says, some of those zebco's at wal-mart will do the job!

A few companies now days do make a pack rod, you can get them form $20-30 up to $180. I know cabelas has them, you'd have to check other places to see.

A good tackle shop in Fort Wayne, IN has a St. Croix packable rod that I think I will get next time I go there. Not sure why, but I feel like I could use it since I travel a lot. I don't pay much attention to St. Croixs, but I think that it is a 5 piece or something like that.

Ditto on the rod above but I'd get a good spinning or baitcasting reel to go with it. I don't have a very good opinion of Zebcos.

Well if he's looking at that crap a zebco would be a step up. Money may be an issue for the young man. You can't beat an old 33. But remembor folks people who use reels like those are usually not avid fishermen. The guy that fishes 3 or 4 time a year. The zebco is all they need. Most of us put more use on a reel than most do in a life time. For that are reason we need better equitment.
