Its actually a Shoal Bass, caught in Georgia. No hybridization at all. They get up to 8 pounds and inhabit fast flowing rivers south of Atlanta.

I've caught several, although none like the pic I posted. Those guys in georgia are real lucky, they can catch sure enough trophy shoal bass. My biggest was around 2 pounds.

The only one I got to get is the Guadelupe bass.

Wish I could find a better writeup, but thats one of them. They are only found in central Texas, the Llano, Guadelupe and San Marcos rivers among others. These rivers from pictures are beautiful places to fish, clear water with big skies over the top. Unfortunatly they stocked smallmouth into the same streams in the 80s and quickly realised that they tended to hybridize with the Guads, but they may have started getting that under control. Reb might know something, thats his territory. There is supposedly another bass that hasnt been reconized yet over near South Carolina called Bartrams bass. I don't have to get that until a scientist decides to describe it officially, which is a lengthy process. All of these other basses are in ranges south of the smallmouth, and while science might differ, I suspect considering how they all tend to resemble smallmouth these are all species that arose out of populations of smallmouth or perhaps spots being isolated by warming temperatures long enough to evolve into distinct species.

Black bass is any bass of the genus micropterus of which there are currently 7 recognized species, Shoal being one of them, as I said.

I'm not sure what you are looking for clarification of or whatnot.

buzzie the thing that makes wiki hard to go by is the fact that anybody can edit it and wtl had already included said bass in his count when i'm looking for credible info on a topic i try the state dep websites first and go from there wikipedia is just to unreliable

That gives a little nod to Bartrams bass. It was noted by an english naturalist on his visit to the continent over a century ago, hence the name. It is not recongized right now as another species so information will be limited.

The fish in the first pic is a largemouth. There are a few I.D. keys about a spotted bass that separate them apart. On a largemouth bass, the jaw bone when the moth is shut will go past the eye of the fish, on a lspottedbass the jaw bone will not go past the eye. Spots have a patch of teeth on their tounge, but sometimes largemouth's will too. Spots are usally more model brown and with the really white belly, but color is poor to use for and identification key since environmental factors can affect a fish's color!
That fish looks like a smallie... and if its not then Im guessing its a different species of largemouth like a shoal or swannie. Good fishin
