Put the hurt on the 'gills today...
My son and I caught 73 jigging small lead-head jigs for 2.5 hours this afternoon on Conesus Lake. They were still biting when we left.
My wife is frying up the fishsticks as I post this...

Funny, I just watched some filleting vids the other night. I haven't cleaned a fish since I quit trout fishing. Bluedaksi in your opinion is there any taste difference in fish caught through the ice as opposed to those in other seasons?

Absolutely. My wife just fried up a huge batch of fishsticks and they were delicious. I don't keep bass any season, but trout and panfish seem to taste much better in the winter.

Paul, great catch for a few hours! Heck, that'd, be a great catch for a whole day.
I think they do taste better through the ice, and that's the ONLY time I'll eat crappie. BB

Well, my son and I were only doing what we have to do to become better bass anglers. What better way to learn more about our favorite quarry than to pursue and consume the same prey that big bass often eat? We were just doing research... yeah... THAT's it... research...

Great job to both of you. BTW, I don't think any of us have received invitations to your fish feed yet.

This is exactly how I do it except I use a sharp filet knife. It took about an hour...

Now I've never done this since my grandpa got sick and had to sell his boat before I was really old enough to go out on Lake Erie and perch fish, but they used to bring back 150-200 perch and clean them all. I'm glad I wasn't old enough to have to help fillet all those.
by the way, I think you get a lot more meat out with a regular fillet knife. And ask bamabassman which way's really faster. BB

Nice haul BD. I have always filleted my bass and big crappie like that. But I never have done the bream. It makes me wanna load the kids up though just to give it a try though. Thanks for the pic of the pile-o-bream.

I prefer using the old fillet knife method as well. The guy in that video looked like he was wasting a lot of meat off those fish. I've seen guys waste even more than that though at the fillet house up in Canada at Rice Lake. They would bring in a haul of about 200 or so bluegill and just rip through them as fast as they could. We would bring in half as many and get just as much dinner out of it cause there is nothing wasted. I will say this...filleting fish is definitely an art!!

...and thank goodness the neighbors aren't too close - well, for now, they're frozen awaiting for the springtime thaw and when I can till them into the garden.
