Default Night at the Reservoir

Or more like, "Evening at the Reservoir." My dad and I headed over to the local reservoir last night for about an hour and half of fishing.

I started out with my go-to this year, my skirted t-rig. My dad started working a jig. No bites on either of these. Odd since both normally produce at this reservoir...

So after I a while, I notice that the water level is down about 1.5-2' and there are no weeds on the surface like they where a few weeks ago at normal water level... They did a weed kill.

With weeds out of the way, my dad ties on a Bandit 100 in Bluegill (one of our best producers before the weeds get too thick). I decided to throw my Spro BBZ-1 Shad (slow sink).

My dad hooked up but lost him at the shore. I had a hit on the BBZ-1 Shad, but missed it.

My dad continued to fish the crank while I switched to a shakey head with a white Zoom Trick Worm. I got hit on my first cast with it on the fall, and he swam towards me. I didn't get enough slack out of the line and I missed him...

After fishing that for a while with no more bites, I switched over to a Strike King Premier Plus spinnerbait in Sexy Shad. I made a cast parallel to the shore and got a hit. Felt like a good one! when I got him closer, he wasn't as big as I thought, but covered in weeds. He got off as I bent down to lip him. I did find out my Dobyns 733C makes a great spinnerbait rod, and is more versatile than I had originally thought.

My dad got 5 more hits, and landed one. Later we found the hooks are very dull on this crankbait, and need changing. Yay! An excuse to go to the tackle store!

Good to get out fishing, even if it was hot and humid with lots of mosquitoes, lol.
