I feel like starting this like
a member of AA. Instead of an alcoholic I find myself being drawn in. When I have a successful day with a certain lure I try to make sure I have at least one more as a spare in the exact color, usually 2 more. Then I find myself buying a few more of the same lure in different colors & sizes just in case. Do I have a bad monkey or what?

I have found that it also happens even if the lure was not a success. Then I find myself saying maybe it wasn't the lure, perhaps I need a different color.

This was especially true when my kids were little and fished with me often. I have also handed my fishing partners lures like mine when I was doing well and they did not have the same bait I was having success with.

Oh they call it a bait monkey... but really (shhhh, quiet)...it's really the search for the holy grail. The bait that will catch more, bigger fish.
But then there's yet another truth as well...the manufacturers of poles, reels, lines, terminal tackle and baits are all fishing to catch fishermen and boy do they catch the bigguns!!!!! LOL
