Let us welcome as a Sponsor of BassFishin.Com...

Stop paying so much for Tungsten Weights!

We are very excited to be teamed up with BulkTungsten.Com and spreading the word to our visitors about the great prices and quality tungsten weights they offer. Tungsten is the future of fishing weights, being about 50% smaller than lead sinkers of the same weight. BulkTungsten.Com also offers unfinished, unpainted weights... which is the style weights many top pro's, like Skeet Reese, prefer. Top anglers are making a 100% switch to Tungsten, including myself, and with BulkTungsten.Com, it's now more affordable than ever.

Visit the BulkTungsten.Com website and take a look at the many wonderful products they offer at fantastic prices.

Please join me in welcoming BulkTungsten.Com as a Sponsor of BassFishin.Com!

Welcome.

Do these tungsten weights have plastic inserts in them?

wow. they are a little bit cheeper.

BPS has the XPS tungsten weights that are 3/16 [what i t-rig with] and they are 6 bucks per 5 pack.
so 18 bucks for 15

and Bulk Tungsten has 18 for 14.99

a little bit cheeper. but that little bit can get you a decent crankbait

Welcome to the site

Im a new to tungsten weights. Whats the purpose of the plastic insert?

I have noticed that when setting the hook with a tungsten weight it has the tendancy to act like a missile??? Is that why?

Act like a missle, I don't understand.

But the plastic insert is there to help protect your line.

I would guess that the weight shoots up the line when a strike an hookset occurs.

You would be correct. For some reason I dont have this problem with lead (as much). Maybe the smaller size, heavier weight, helps it cut through water better.

Ok, so tungsten abraids your line easier....Thats good to know...thanks for the input.

JRL... you'll have much fewer problems with tungsten weights. If at all possible, I definitely recommend a switch to all tungsten weights. The only obstacle to this point has been the cost of Tungsten. That's why we're so happy to be teamed up with BulkTungsten.Com.

There was also a great thread on our forums a few weeks ago titled, The Advantages of Tungsten. Worth a read!

jrl,
If you pound a lead weight a lot it will mangle like a pop can under a car tire...tungsten is harder and I have yet to beat one into unusable condition..

That's great! Now I can get some tungsten that's not over priced!

It's funny, I just found the site a week ago here!

Personally, I prefer tungsten without the plastic insterts. The insterts kill some of the sensitivity. That's why I'm still paying an arm and a leg for Tru Tungsten.

I agree with BB! The difference in feel from lead to tungsten is considerable, but if you use the tungsten weights with the inserts you are stepping backwards.

I have to say, if I ever buy more tungsten weights with inserts, it'll be from here. I don't know if it's just the pics, but all the inserts seem to fit really well. I bought a back of tungstens weights someplace that didn't have TT and the insert stuck out both sides!

From what I understand, the problems with inserts are a thing of the past for the most part. A lot of guys years ago who were trailblazing with tungsten were having problems with them sliding out of place, but I haven't had any problems. I think the argument that the tiny inserts lose sensitivity is a poor one. It's akin to fishing jigs without recoil guides. They say recoil guides are the most sensitive, but how many pro's do you see fishing fuji or batson... a lot. It's a moot issue.

I would have to agree that a thin, hard plastic insert would do very little if no dampening at all.

I would recommend that you peg the heavier weights when flipping and pitching. Kevin has a video on the bobber-stop type pegs or use the rubber pegs. I had a lot of breaks at the knot due to the heavy weight sliding and now I don't since I started pegging. I wish I had known this earlier and would have saved me some $$.
