8lb Trilene XL and or Original Stren, Blue /Flo, been usiong it for years with great results spinning. I was a spining only guy, until I went baitcasting I only have one spinning rig
7 ft Med/Fast Fenwick with a 6735 President by Pflueger reel, and I use 8 # XL currently because I got it cheap. The beauty with these 2 lines; relatively inexpensive, no twist issues when used correctly and none of that line treatment crap is needed. On my boat the only thing with memory issues is me.

I do agree that as a beginner, mono is the best choice. I also think mono if better for spinning reels. (although both can be a pain is not properly maintained).

DrG, If you do end up going with FC, I'd recommend Seaguar InvisX. It's by far the best I've used.

Totally agree with the first 2 paragraphs. I don't like straight flouro on spinning reels. Braid is the easiest line to use on spinning reels, so I would recommend 15 lb Power Pro braid.

When I go to Northern MN to the Boundary Waters, I use a 7' 6" ML spinning rod with 10-15 lb Power Pro braid, and for years I did this before I started tying fluoro leaders and even with straight braid I had plenty of success with big smallies and rainbows.

So this is a new wrinkle altogether. I'm using a 6'6" M travel spin rod with a Saros 2500. Almost everyone I've heard from has said stay away from braid on spinning reels, particularly with at the 2500 size. 15 lb. braid sounds a bit extreme for the equipment I'm using, don't you think?

YES and YES! I don't put line on without it. I also use it before and after going out.

Lines can be confusing, so here is what I would suggest: Try the most recommended lines you see here and decide for yourself. As I have and will continue to always say, yse what works for you, not somebody else.

Asking for advice here is a great place to start, though!
