dale hollow
just a thought..a dangerus thing from me..
now dale hollow is known as a clear water lake. with average vizability of 20 feet.with very few to rare amounts of largemouth in it.. from my sources all claim finesse fishing is the key to dh smallies. every source of mine says 3" max lenth baits seemed to work best.. now me i say a shakey head is a must have for there..what other baits would you go with?? zooker

I would go with a wacky rig on light fluorocarbon, Dropshotting jerkbaits and finesse worms, and also flick shake.

Just thinking out loud here, because I have little experience with
A. Crystal clear lakes, or B. Smallmouth Small tubes, 1/4 oz jigs (Bitsy Bugs, etc), shakyheads, finesse worms either weightless or with 1/8 oz sinkers. Am I close?

Good post finesse jigs e2's black black I use 3/16...5/16 I fish the lightest I can get away with, I dont fish tubes much but I should. The lakes I fish are very very very clear like DH and the saying on them is if you master these lakes you can fish anywhere like DH these lakes are deep and rocky and full of SM.

I'm thinking that, any lure that's a good imitator of craws would get their attention.

I'd go with senko's (watermelon red - t-rig weightless), Yamamoto hula grubs, 4.5" tubes, crank baits, top water plugs and some swim baits.

Just a little FYI... Stephen Headrick of Punisher Lures, will be bringing some of his stuff along with him, when he speaks at our Smallmouth Seminar.

Oh, I was counting on Mr. Headrick bringing along his pet bait monkey.
I really like the looks of his royal shad spinnerbait.

Gonna have to leave the bait casters at Home Zook, Go with the spin casters and bring the Buggy whip rods out.
I cant wait to try a hot pink float worm.

I went to DH over the summer and the misconception that there are not many Largies up there is wrong they are just more in the tributaries than the main lake. As far as the smallmouths go, Zara Spook, the Smallies will come out of the depths and kill it.
DH is one of the toughest lakes to consistently catch fish at because of the clear water. If I was fishing a tournament there I wouldn't put down the spook rod all day, but that's just me.

I would try little jerkbaits, deep jerkbaits, tubes, and of course drop shotting a 3" goby in KLB (smoke with small purple, gold, black, and silver flake). I drop shot pretty much every day because it consistently works for me. It is not the best for covering water trying to find the fish though. I sure hope to make it down there.

I read an article about a lake like were talking about here. This guy, I can't remember the name, was using the wind drifting along with a 4 inch Senko type bait drifting wellll behind the boat weighted with a split shot. That might work well at Dale Hollow. I have a lake not too far from my house of about 800 acres. It was a good fishin lake with visability around 8 foot at best most days. However, since the Zebra mussels got into the lake it have become very clear with visibility of 25 foot most days. The fishing has gotten very tough as well. I'm thinking about doing some night fishing next year using a Jitterbig or other surface bait utilizing very long casts. I would think under the cover of darkness, visability won't be such an issue as durring daylight hours.

When you all go to Dale Hollow you will hear a lot of people suggesting night fishing. Many of the tournaments on dale hollow take place at night because of the limited visibility. But beware keeping a smallmouth in the slot, TWRA game wardens patrol the waters regularly and do many random livewell checks.
