Default .44 magnum

To the non-shooters this is probably of no interest but I picked up my new Taurus .44 magnum today. I got her home and starting giving it the once over and what a sweet gun. The finish is perfect and the action is smooth as can be. This is my 2nd Taurus and I know they had a bad rap many years ago but this is is a fine piece.

If you haven't looked at one in a while give them another look. They are exactly half the price of a Smith and Wesson but quality wise just as good IMO.

First off, sweet gun. My cousin has a taurus 9mm pistol and he loves it, says the same thing about the action and overall quality of the gun. I am a beretta man myself but, whatever floats your boat. Anyway, I'm a pretty avid skeet shooter and have a concealed handgun license so I feel like I am somewhat versed in most firearms. However, I really never understood the role a .44 mag played in an arsenal. I'm not questioning your right to own, just curious as to why?

Really no need, they are just fun to shoot. I grew up in the revolver era and still enjoy shooting them. These days everybody is into the hi-cap semi's and this is different.

I own a Springfield XD 9mm and.40, Kimber .45, Smith and Wesson 22A and a SigSauer all in the semi-auto function. I have had numerous Glocks also.

I shoot indoor pistol leagues where you are timed and also graded on your accuracy. I use the XD's for this competion because you may have to change magazines 2 or 3 times in the course of fire and they are all hicaps.

BTW, we do not have concealed carry in IL so none of my guns are used for that purpose.

.45 guy here all the way. have an older Colt Defender, 2 wilsons cqb models, and several 1911s. Not a big fan of the 9mm, but believe the .40 is pretty good as well.

I have a Kimber .45 that is a sweet gun.

I am a huge fan of the 9mm, rounds are about half the price of the .45's.

Hog thats cuz you have to shoot about 6 times more of them to stop an attacker LOL! I think for basic target shooting the 9mm would be fine, but for defense, give me a .45 anyday!

A few years ago Massad Ayob, inventor of the maddanock pr-24, guns and ammo writer, and president of lethal forces institute did a study of officer related shootings. The 9mm averaged 6.1 rounds to stop a target, the .45 1.2 rounds. Bear in mind these are trained shooters, not just the average person. so some simple math tells us that with 8 rounds the .45 has the potential to neut 6.66 targets, and the 9mm with say 13 rounds will average 2.13.

There have been huge advances in ammo technology, to be sure. I have just seen to many times where guys had to unload a 9mm to take a target, I just thank god that the USMC still allowed those of us in the "advanced" divisions to still carry the .45. They perform very well!!

yeah i tore my wrist up bad pulling off a double tap.-the reason i sold it- it is a monster and the recoil is a beast.. the carbine is more mangable but still it lets you know that you are shooting a cannon.. -the rifle actually sounds remarkably like a muzzel loader going off..
