Tonight I stressed this knot to the extreme - dad-gum snapping turtle the size of a garbage can lid - and it held fast.

Nice. I'll have to give it a try. I have up the albright special this spring to the double uni.

Wow, Stew...that turtle sounds exciting. Was it an alligator one or just the regular one? They're both pretty cool.
By the way, I will definitely try that knot...thanks for the new info.

Ya, that was a crazy huge turtle last night! The thing got all tangled up in the hydrilla it wasn't even funny! BTW, he was using 40lb braid, and 15lb tipple fish fluorocarbon leader. All I caught where 6 bass the size of my hand!
EDIT: Holly molly! That's a hard knot! I think I got it right, but not sure, how many times did you wrap it?

hey stew can i pick your brain about some oct gulf fishing in clearwater beach? I 've talked to zooker and a few others but want to get an idea of what kind of surf rod / reel I can get and what size hooks, weights, and bait. Some days I'll be on Pier60 in clearwater, but most of the time I'll fish in front of my sons condo which is on the bay behind the actual clearwater beach. Other than that I hope to get out with my brother in law in tampa and fish his boat, he's getting a new one pretty soon.

I have used this knot for over a year now

Tying this knot on the second set of wraps is a little like weaving.

The Slim Beauty Knot is real good for this application; the only one I use. It not hard to tie and it forms a real tight knot that easily slips through the rod guides. Check it out:

Stew,
Do you have any difficulties in getting it to cinch? That was my learning curve on the albright. From time to time I found that the knot did not cinch smoothly
