My 40yr old trolling motor
im reaaaaaally new to boats and motors especially. on the shakespeare wondertroll 600 its says "6 or 12 volts". does that mean i need a 6 or 12 volt battery to use it? i hooked it to a car battery to make sure it still ran and it does, but i want to buy a new battery solely for the use of my motor.

Any automotive or say a walmart will have 12 v marine recharageable batteries, run about 65 and up.Those older motors used tad more amps and had less trust ,providing it moves the boat and moves it easlily in the conditions used,be ok .
Age has little to do with it,besides most likly spent most of that time in a garage. My troller is about ten years old most likly with more time onit than thant one,and the gas one is 34 years old-1977. Again low thrust is most likly reason its still around, and may or may not not move the boat well that is the goal after all.On something like 12 ft v bottom do ok 16 ft mc fast in wind go backwards Forget the 6 v switch is even there, run 12 v |

trolling motor deepcycle not a starting battery or dual purpose,if in doubt ask the seller
550 amps to 850 amps each costing more but running longer, its not a large demanding one so figgure 650-700,its like having a 4 cyl car do you need the biggest baddest battery out there to turn the monster over,or just barely enough(550) or enough in case youve had a bad day After running it on any certain size be easier to guess what you actually need Nothing like being a long ways from the ramp and find your troller is failing.Ive covered 8 miles more than once and by the time ramp was in sight could have taken a nice nap prior to actually reaching it had I been able to. |
