Default Shimano or Abu Garcia

I'm sure you've all read the millions of threads I've posted about me deciding on a reel to buy.

I am trying to decide between a Shimano Curado 100D, Shimano Curado 200D, and an Abu Garcia Revo STX.

I'll be using this reel with a 7' heavy rod for jigs, worms, and frogging.

I'm more leaned towards the Revo right now.

Thanks all.

Thumbs up

jooleyen, I just bought a Revo SX. I haven't tried it yet. Maybe you might want to look at the Citica reel. I bought one last year and I like it just as much as the older Curados. It lists for $119. This way you could buy another or some lures. I'm not trying to talk you out of getting either you mentioned. The SX I think will do me just right. I'm using it for buzzbaits, 7:1 should do the trick.

I'd get the Abu revo. Shimano reels are greatly different between high grade reels and curado, and you're paying for a name. The reel will contain aa lot of plastic, and (in my experience/opinion) won't hold up real well. An abu is swedish made and manafactured, and tuned and tested. Just a higher quality product imo....

I've always been very high on Garcia, for the most part they make good products.

I´ve had a couple of Curados for over a decade and caught a big bunch of 8-12 pounders with them, so much for a lot of plastic in it , btw, they work like new and look like out of the box. There´s also a lot of plastic in Abus also.

As stated in other threads, I have several curado reels. The 100D that you mention is a small reel that is great if you have small hands. It seems to fit in the palm of my hand real nice. I have fished curados for 5 or 6 years and I have never had a problem. One of the most important parts of buying a reel is to make sure it is comfortable for you! Good Luck!

being a shimano woman....i would have to say that here in texas shimano beats abu any day of the week....i've owned both....and the abu is now in the junk pile somewhere...unfixable....a real POS...in my books....i use a shimano curado HSV on a airrus rod....it's sweet.....being a woman i like the smaller reels for the fit in my hand....as for men....well i have never seen one that could hang on to a bigun too long anyway.....rofl.....so a better fit in the hand might help the odds......

Thanks all. Rofl to bassintxlady and JB. I like the Curado 200D, but I think I'm gonna get a STX. I'd love to get both.

Decisions Decisions, I imagine what ever reel you chose, it should work just fine for you, I would say the Shimano is the way to go, but never having anything else, I can't speak about the competition. There seems to be quite a few guys here who are very happy with their Abu's....so whatever reel you end up buying....

Good Luck..

If you are looking for value then check out ebay for a Abu Garcia Torno reel. Normally $85-125 can be found for $35-50. Also if you know of anyone going to Japan have them take $65 and get you a Shimano Scorpion. I did both last year and I'm happy with both reels.

Either reel is fine.I would not think of spending $199, when the $99 Revo S model I have will do everything very well. You could save your hard earned money, or buy the Shimano with the HEG system. The new Curados are heavier weight than the older Curado line, but they are built to last a long time. Make sure your rod selection is not the problem.Baitcasting rod action ratings are more sensitive on the lure choices you can use them for. A spinning rod selection will cast a wider variety of lures easier than a baitcasting outfit will, unless you select the right rod action for a more specific lure presentation that you are going to use. P N J

P.S. I hope this helps.
