Default Humminbird Sideimaging Coverage Area

When they say the unit has 480ft or 720 or whatever it is from side to side, what depth are they talking about? Does anyone have a table that would show the area covered at a specific depth?

Thanks

There is a limit to the depth that it can go to. Can't remember if it was 70' or 80' or more. Since most sonar don't work well in 2' or less I'm sure it's limited in skinny water too. I can't give you exact info but check out the other thread on the Sidescan and check the two websites posted.

There is a formula somewhere, I have seen it but can't remember where. I've seen screen shots as deep as 200' before but they aren't great. I think I have looked at 100' O.K. and in shallow water you are more limited but mainly from my experience it is because the shore is on one side and you can't see past that and the water gets deeper on the other and it can't get soundings back past the drop off. I was actually surprised at how well it does work in the shallow water but off the top of my head I don't think you can see much more than 40' or so to each side in 3' of water. I'll give it a try next time I'm out and get some screen shots so you can see for yourself rather than just theory.
