Lure - I really like a 4" worm, either a cut tail or straight tail. Any "finesse" style bait can be effective, try your favorites.

Hook - I have regularly used a #1 octopus stlye hook, but have recently purchased the new VMC (?) hook that is free swinging on a piece of wire which should help with line twist.

I use a 7'0" M/f spinning rod, 20# braid with about 4' of 6# flurocarbon leader and a tungsen drop shot weitht, but all that is just a matter of personal preference.

No, just nose hook them. Flukes would work, but I'd use a small one, like 4". Drop shotting, for the most part, is a subtle presentation with small baits for finicky fish. Not always, but that's the main thrust of the technique. You can also fish it horizontally, casting out from the boat, let settle on the bottom and drag it back - SLOWLY. I've done it that way in shallow water (3-4 ft) with good results.

We use 5" senkos and wacky-rig them on a dropshot. We catch a lot of bass this way, both Largemouth and Smallies, and many of them in the 3-4 pound range, which is a nice bass around here. We fish them horizontally, like Bassboogieman described, in up to 10 feet of water.

Lots of good info!

If you get a chance check out Kevin Scarselli's drop shot video.
