If YOU can't go fishing...
...help a buddy who can.
I got a call from a friend, into serious bassing for the last year +, who's going to Choke Canyon tomorrow in the very early AM. He owns a Skeeter but he's a guest and will get his first "demo" in a Champ. We've just had a cold front move through...dang it, so they'll be facing winds to 20-25, high pressure, prolly bluebird skies...ALL the negatives. On the bright side, I was able to make up a "kit" for him that included four colors of 10" worms, pre-made C-rig gadgets with #25 P-Line CFX fluoro leaders already attached, two bottles of "attractant", a Falcon C-rig rod and a REVO, a new tube of Super Glue, a large buzzzzzzzzzbait, some large-bladed spinner baits, alternate-colored skirts and quick-change blades, some trailers (See: Super Glue). some Peg-its, some heavier tungsten worm weights, new trebles for some lures that were wayyyy overdue for them, three types of shaky/football/stand-up jig heads for his beloved ZOOM Trick worms, a Magellan raintop/windbreaker, a sweat shirt and pants, a spool of CFX #25 leader material, and a couple of other items. We went to BPS and found some 7/0 'Katsus for the big worms. Then we spooled #50 braid on the REVO (hated to waste the #30), added a P-Line CFX #25 leader (8'), and he's all set. Y'see, he lives over an hour away but has bought a small condo here in SA in order to cut down on fuel costs and reduce the risks of the deer-infested highway that runs from his home to his office here. He gets home on the weekends and his lovely bride comes down here when she can. He did have some tackle here but there was a need for some other stuff, given the weather and the nature of the lake; so different from his "home" waters, Lakes LBJ and Marble Falls. The point of all this is NOT to play hero or pretend to be one, not at all. What it IS about is the warmth one may derive from doing what one can for a friend. Heck, he might catch a new personal best tomorrow; Whether it be with anything I provided or not...doesn't matter at all. In a way, it was all a gift to ME. At least I'm involved with someone's trip. I know the odds are against them, thanks to the weather gods, but I'll be up and at 'em, phone and kawfee cup at hand, from launch time until I know they're safely home. I'm hoping that first call comes in 15 minutes post-dawn, reporting a 10 pounder! L6 PS: At the very least he'll learn why ChampioNs are pretty much THE rough water, errrrr...Champs (and maybe the new and RARE Warrior bass models.) Last edited by Lancer6; 10-22-08 at 10:29 PM. |

proud to call you a friend l6. i try to help out as many as i can as well. it doesn't always mean you have to buy or give lures to them, i agree. sometimes it is just telling them what YOU use and have luck with. well done, well done.

John, that was a great thing you did. Always pay it forward.
Even if I'm sometimes a jerk I always try to help people when they need it.

Very nice, I have had people just like you help me before and I help someone if I can. The good thing about a forum like this ya gotta figure 80% of the people would do the same, which makes the world a better place.

Thats great L6 one of the things I've noticed about anglers in general is they are always more than willing to help another out . if more people had that outlook on life the world would be a better place .

I can say from much personal experience that L6 is one of the finest men I have ever met. I know the buddy he is referring to, and helping out folks above and beyond the call is for L6 the rule and not the exception.

It seems the weather shift and prevailing stiff breeze from the North all conspired to hamper their efforts. A few phish were caught, maybe a half-dozen, my friend catching his on some sort of white crankbait. Of the gear I loaned him the sweats and windbreaker were most appreciated.
He said the Champ 181 was nice and handled the rough water pretty much as I'd predicted it would. My friend has a Skeeter 21-footer so he did have to adjust to a little less room. He did see one 'gator. The main thing here is that he met and fished with a new friend, saw a new-to-him lake...and HE got to go phishing. I'm glad someone did. Lancer6 Boatless Bank Trash |

The saga continues...
My chum dropped by to return the stuff (but kept the rod at my suggestion,) and reported that he'd bounced two St. Croix rods, one with a David Fritts on it, over the side while fishing from his boat on Sarurday (Lake LBJ). Soooo, since he's budgeted closely (see: Wife...Rhymes with "Fife",a small shrill instrument...See: Wife...also a small, shr...get it?) I handed over two rigs if the same application/technique types. Nope, not trying to bribe my way into Valhalla, just doing what we all do...I hope. L6 |
