From what I've heard... If you fish them hard, the gears break down quicker then other reels of similar price. I've had the same problem with the KVD Baitcaster I bought in early '07.

Too heavy! Finally, most bassers have come to the conclusion my little "Voice crying out in the wilderness" has long espoused...Weight is the enemy.
There are too many fine reels out there that weigh well under nine, even eight, ounces for you to saddle yourself with an obese reel.
No matter how mighty a man (or woman) one may be, unneeded weight will speed onset of fatigue and sore joints, lessen sensitivity to the bite, etc, and those are negatives in any case.
You might save some money on the close-outs on discontinued reels but you'll pay for it in the long run.
Have a look at the new Shimano "E" series reels, especially the E7 for most applications and the E5 for billed cranks. These little jewels will do the job without breaking the bank OR your wrist.

I have 2 of them and been using them every weekend for about 6 months.
There are lighter reels out there, but mine have given me no problems.

I bought one last winter used it in the spring and the bearings started making all kinds of noise. After many failed attempts of trying to repair myself I sent it back to Quantum, after having it back for about a month same thing happened...sent it back again...near the end of the summer the bearings started whining again......I have other quantum reels that I really enjoy and have had no problems but the PT has been a pain in the arse!

hey jason if you don't want a noisy reel give it to me.. i got one that sound like a coffee grinder but have caught every bass you see me post with a bandit 100 in it's mouth..

uk
don't buy it because of the paint job cause they don't last long. smooth reels the only problem i have had is the paint coming off.. they are a pain in the but to re thread the spool eye.
